Whee, new fog lights.

Nothing really wrong with the ones I installed earlier except the new LED headlight washed them out. These, on the other hand,

So, the Ural was in a car show yesterday. It was kind of a last minute deal that my son in law invited me to. Alas, I didn't think about it being a Halloween themed show. I could have at least worn my Russian Ushanka, with a Zenit camera around my neck.

Anyway, I didn't take any pics because my boss decided that if he was working on Sunday, he should be able to play twenty questions with me, so I turned off my phone.

Ended up parked next to a sweet Harley 350 that was fully set up for Halloween. The owner wasn't the friendliest guy, but he did have my back later in the day.

Met a lot of people who wanted to know about the Ural history, so I did my best on getting it straight. Did have one guy tell me the whole history of the Russians 'commandeering' all the technology and equipment to build the rigs after the defeat of Germany in 1945. I let him go on and then asked if that was true, how did the first ones roll off the assembly line in 1942. Also explained that the new Urals, as a military bike, have as much in common with the original M72 as the HD Road King has with the WLA. Those discussions were interesting.

I did run into 'that guy', though. How dare I not own an American bike. What's worse, I even bought a commie Russian bike. And on and on and on. So I just sat there, waiting for my moment. The guy then points at the Harley next to me and says, "That's an American bike." The owner of said bike is watching this and just says, "Umm, no. It's Italian." I thought I was going to choke on my coffee. The guy just stormed away from us.

No trophies won, but made a lot of little Batmans and Witches happy by letting them sit in the sidecar so their parents could take their pictures. Had a few Harley Quinns sitting on the bike, too. Where the heck were those girls in my youth?

My son in law, he never showed up. Seems my daughter deemed it was more important that he get the roof finished than "waste time" at a car show. I thought I taught her better.

My daughter and I have attended a lot of car shows together, so I hope she never pulls a stunt like that.

Next time, I encourage you to put your phone in airplane mode, so you can happily snap away and not be interrupted.

You always have the most interesting stories!

Sunday the girlfriend and I took the hack up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. it was about 30 up there. saw a few flurries. the good part was that I had the sidecar wired for electric and she was able to plug in an electric lap blanket, so was quite comfortable. try that on two wheels!

Yeah, I saw that. I'd been following him on FB. Guy turned out to be kind of an arrogant SOB.

Didn't think to take a pic today, but the Ural was pressed into truckster duty this morning.

Today was the 'absolutely last day' (until the next absolutely last day) to get crap out of my former place of employment. Inky Tim agreed to take what was left for his shop and his buddies place. There were three drums of grease that there was no way Tim and I were go to lift into the back of his truck. But they were on casters, so I threw my ramps into the sidecar and met Tim and Harold at the shop. We managed to get what was left in the shop into Tims' truck.

Probably the last day I'll ever be in that place.

Cheesy, I got to change the tub tire on a ural last weekend.

There were 2 ural riders last week on our 250 mile ride. Me and several other endure type bikes were at the front of a 7 man group. We usually stop and let the rest catch up. They didn't come so we backtracked. Turned out one of the Urals tried to climb a game fence on a curve (too hot). Shook the guy up and he was sore but ok. I changed his flat and bent out the fender with the jaws of a cresent wrench. Those things are really built!

As it happened

Ouch!
The Urals are unforgiving beasts in hot right handers. I had the sound off so as not to bother Mrs. C. I'm guessing that the sidecar flew and the rider got a bit unnerved. The rig looks like an M70 or a Retro.
