No issues in Oregon

Couldn't believe how easy it was. Handed them the MCO, they stamped it and it was over. Happy days!

Nope! There was emissions verbiage on the MCO but they didn't even read it.

My new Tao Tao 50 is being delivered on the truck Wednesday. When I get the MCO...will I need to have a VIN check done? Will I need to have the bill of sale with me? I'm confused about the cost. I've read $96 for four years and the tag fee of $17. Could you please provide more information on the cost and what I need once I get the MCO? Have never registered a vehicle here in Oregon and had problem with getting the correct information put on my license.

Thank you!

Just got my tags/title/registration yesterday morning at the DMV. Had no problems...except the lady didn't know about the "L" on the VIN or where to find out where the mileage was located on the MCO. Once these items were figured out...paid my $185 (yes...$185) for all of this to be able to have some transportation. Did not have to have the VIN checked...even though I did have it there in case they needed to check it. Now...am legal for four years and they took a huge chunk of my paycheck. (More than they needed to take...compared to other states.)

$185? That seems like a lot of for a 50cc scooter, but I am guessing that included sales tax and registration? I thought you guys didn't pay sales tax on vehicles?

We don't pay sales tax on anything we buy in the stores or online...but I have a feeling when you register any vehicle...this more than makes up for the lack of a sales tax by having some massive fees. To put this into perspective...before the transmission on my 1999 Ford Expedition blew up...Oregon was going to charge me $193 to register it and put two year tags on it from what Arizona charged me for two years at $51. Even Colorado would've run me around $80 for the same vehicle. I hear Washington has an even bigger racket on what you pay is according to the month you register the vehicle. I could be wrong...January was super cheap...but December was where they nailed you to the tree and left you to die.

Forgot to add that Colorado charges you $5.85 for a three year sticker on this same size of bike. (Not sure what the fees would be for registration...but that sticker is $5.85. Saw it on several of the bikes there.) Even Idaho/Arizona where I've lived as well would charge you a fraction of what Oregon does.
