Angry Hawk 250 issues riding

Hey guys I’m new to the Chinese bike world. I bought a new 250 two days ago. It was supposed to be completely tuned and ready to ride. When I test drove it it seemed sluggish. I figured it was not quite warmed up. Today I cranked it up. It was idling low. I cranked the screw a bit and got it where it sounded good. I take off on it ride for mabe a minute never got past third gear. Turned around to come up a hill down shifted and died. Ok no big deal. So I try to crank back up and it won’t crank. Let it sit for a few minutes and crank it back up. Take off riding does the exact same thing. Messed with it for a couple hours adjust idle screw every which way. Can’t keep it running. After it dies and I get it cranked back up I shift into first and dies until I leave it for a few minutes. Anyone know what my issue could be? I can’t even get the bike broke in at this rate. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Valves need adjusting. Valve come set too tight from the factory. Read the Hawk resource guide sticky at the top of the Dual sport section.

Couple things I would check if it were my bike.

First, I don't believe it's tuned an ready to ride. Time to rejet, shim the needle, etc..

Second, adjust your clutch lever/freeplay. Sounds like when it's warm, the clutch isn't disengaging all the way so when you drop it into gear, it stalls the bike.

If the carb still has the tamper proof screws on the bowl it wasn't tuned. The stock carb come tuned very lean from the factory. Also you need to get some miles on it before it loosens up. It will run much better after about 500 miles or so.

If you purchase the ready to ride bike packages you should have just lit your cash on fire instead. At least you’ll get some street credit.

What everyone else said valves, adjust them and post back. Your good.

Ok good deal I was being hopeful and read many forums. I figured I was going to have to get into carb and adjust valves. Most issues I found with everyone else were idling So I was kind of getting worried because mine is idling fine. Glad adjusting the clutch was mentioned, because I never thought about that. I got the assembly fee waived. So I didn’t really waste any money. I got the bike assembled and TTL for 1300 out the door. I will be running though all the suggestions. It might be a few day before I get back with results due to crazy work schedule. I really appreciate everyone.

Here’s a couple things well suited to most first tune china bikes:

Once you get that stuff sorted out it will ride great. Guy sold me his with less than 40 miles because he could not get it going right. I did the work stated above and I have about 4,500 miles on my hawk. Also I am not really the mechanical type but was able to complete all this work myself.

Congrats on the purchase and i am sure you will get it figured out and purring like a kitten.

Is the mixture screw accessible at the bottom of the carb. I just glanced last night and didn’t notice one but I have read there is one under a tamper proof plug

On my Hawk carb it had a plastic plug. I used a drywall screw and screwed it right into it and pulled it out.
