New Lifan (Gomoto) in South Africa

Hi everybody,

I bought my Lifan 200cc some two weeks ago. In South Africa it is branded as a Gomoto 200 Xact but the seat and engine is labeled "Lifan". Despite the fact that the 163FML is a pushrod motor it goes well and must say I am surprized with its performance. From reports it seems like a reliable power mill so at this point in time this seems to be a good buy.

Welcome to these forums; we are glad you joined us! Your bike is one of the nicest Lifan motorcycles I have seen. I like the headlight/front fender on your bike. I also like the rest of the plastic! Thank you for posting the nice photo; do you have any others? We would love to see more photographs of your bike.

Hi Spudrider, Weldandgrind;

Thanks for the nice comments on the bike. Had a great ride this morning to our neighboring town to go and buy some oil - 70 km round trip on open country roads. Came home, did the first oil change @ 265km. Oil looks fairly clean but I replaced it with proper bike lube, engine sound really smooth now. The chain has also seated nicely now, needed some adjustment. Checked the sparkplug, seems fine. Seems like I'm getting around 35km/l - with which I'm more than happy. Spud, here's some more pics:

My only real complaint about the bike is this view of the tank. You can clearly see the tank is not properly aligned with the frame. I took the orange covers and seat off for a closer look. Seems like the tank brackets were welded on skew, there does not seem to be a quick fix.

I like the mono shock - feels a bit stiff though.

This is my boy on the bike. He's really crazy about it, is absolutely ecstatic when I take him for a ride! See how small the muffler is - it really sounds like a proper thumper

Thanks for posting the additional photos, WK. You have a really good looking motorcycle! The photograph of your son is priceless.

Beautiful bike. That photo with your boy is really cute. Yeah, I noticed that about the tank. I can't think of a good way to fix it either. No worries. I don't even notice the cracked fairings and bunch of other things on my bike after a few happy rides.

I was riding my 30 year old XL250 today, and the tank sits exactly like yours. It looks like your bike was faithfully cloned from a Honda, right down to the crooked tank.

@katoranger: Yes you are sharp - it is a Remax "For Sale" sign accross the road. . They are one of the biggest estate agent groups in this country.

Thanks Spud - I've got that photo framed in my office @ work .

@roketa200E5, Weldandgrind: You certainly put my mind at ease with that skew tank! Thought it is only my bad luck to have build like that. Now I know I'm not alone.

Really nice looking bike. Makes me miss mine.

Where in South Africa do you hail from? I spent some time working in Durban about ten years ago.

Okay. I wasn't able to get to that part of the country but I hear that it is beautiful. I keep hoping I get to go back someday.

A bit late on the reply, two years too late in fact. I'm also curious about Gomoto brand and yet to see the bikes being reviewed. the one I'm interested in is the Gomoto ZR200 or ZR125, in the UK its the Lexmoto XTR125 I think. I'd like to purchase this bike. I have a Big Boy Blackball (which is currently incapacitated). I'd also like to know who their Chinese counterparts are, Gomoto and Big Boy that is
