Baffle Tutorial

So the dB Dawg showed up today...and once again, a suggestion from Spud long ago NAILS IT! :-)

I'm going to say up front that many today are "plug and play" so this may not be for you. For those of us who don't mind doing a little adjusting, this is definitely an inexpensive, universal alternative to a $250.00 pipe. Between the FMF TC2 and the dB Dawg, I have about $150.00+/- into it.

I knew that their smallest size would not slip right in, but the inner pipe in the silencer was more than adequate size. The opening would need a little reformatting. I didn't want to disrupt the dB Dawg as it's a finely machined piece of aluminum, so I took a little Dremel action to the TC2 to open it a little in the right places.

It barely didn't fit....so I marked with a Sharpee where it needed a little relieving....and started buzzing on it. About 10 minutes later of careful carving with a double disk and polishing with a stone and it slid in perfectly....and WOW! Pretty much exactly the sound I was looking for! Meatier...yet not ear biting like the OHC motor was without it.

I can also say that once warm, the flat spot went away off idle and it REALLY opened up the mid and top end! I can cruise along at 60 easily now!

Yep...this is a definite alternative for the new CSC TT250 when it shows up...if the header pipe will accommodate.

What's a double disc?

Just the small single aluminum oxide cutting disk but two stacked together on the mandrel. I find when cutting/trimming on thicker stuff with the Dremel, I'll just shatter the single disks and waste them....even being super careful. "Finese" is not my middle name sometimes. ;-)

Don't mean to hi jack your thread but made me think of this. Plus I know we all love Harbor Freight. I purchased a set of these cutting discs and they are amazing. In fact I used one to remove a link from my bike chain and they cut thru chain like butter. They are solid metal with a diamond cutting grit so won't shatter.

Yes, x2

I am more interested in this back side mod since my carb is running great.

I prefer not to approach her with new challenges. Makes me looks like I can accomplish something if I accidentally stumble across it first!

Even if it doesn't run better, it sure looks better! Is it a lot lighter?

It not only look better, is quite a bit lighter but yes, it runs better. Even with the cat bashed out of my stock muffler, which helped it tremendously, once I put this TC2 on, it really helped the mid range and top end. Keep in mind, we're only talking about a 200 here so no, it didn't make it hit hyperspace but a definite, noticeable difference.
I'll see if I can figure out a vid this weekend.
