How was the boat ride? Where have you been staying, camping?

I remember sleeping in a corn row between san Luis potsi and aguacalienties in 89' with a college group bound for here

https://goo.gl/maps/mqTEDgnNBes camped out here for the week of the San patricio fiesta.

We were perfect ladies and gentlemen on our spring break

Wolftrax, looks like a great ride down there! Look me up when you get back home to the North GA area and I'll be happy to volunteer my services to help get your Hawk knocked back together, if you're interested in even messing with it. I can be in Blue Ridge in about two and a half hours or so. Happy motoring, and stay safe out in the wild.

The boat ride was a blast even though I was the only sober one on the boat. Spent 2 days anchored off a deserted island in the San Blas islands. Snorkeling both days and I had a sunburn to show for it. Only camped 3 nights cause hotels are so cheap, ten to fifteen bucks a night. Easily staying under $50 a day.

Will do, since the Hawk will be my main transportation.

Let there be light

Been home for Christmas so I thought I'd give the Hawk a little love. The oi slinger/filter was a piece of cake to fix and only $15 for the part. The Hawkster runs as good as ever.
I bought a Advmonster fairing and light kit for my CRF250L and planned to put it on when I return to Peru this weekend. Just for fun I mounted it up on the Hawk, took all of 30 minutes to mount it up on the Hawk. It looks like it was made for the Hawk. Half tempted to leave it on..
The lights are unbeliveable.

I flew home from Lima for Christmas and flying back to Lima this weekend. Off to Bolivia to catch the Dakar when I return. Then off to Ushuaia. I've been lost this entire trip. I have absolutely no plan at all.

i see that, thanks for the update. i would love to see a (many) competition photos of a 2 wheeler flyby at the dakar. possible shots of the zongshen team. i know , bossy right. the world is watching.

i have been searching the nbc sports site looking for a definite sign of any kind specific coverage of the dakar on dish network. not much info yet. guess this is an internet only kind of thing which i don't have much of. if anybody has any links, please post.

good luck with those south american airlines:

Earlier this year, Dan Futrell and Isaac Stoner set out to find the missing black box or anything that could provide answers as to why the Eastern Airlines Flight 980 went down on Jan. 1, 1985, killing all 29 people onboard.

with a name like stoner, what could go wrong...

Will try to get some shots of the Zong team. When I was crossing the gap I was on the same boat as Lyndon Po.skitt a Dakar privateer.

As far as TV,apparently NBC sports is the nerwork

I'll take my chances with Star Peru airlines. Got to be safer than the buses as well as much quicker. On my way home I took the express bus from Huanuco to Lima, a 232 mile trip. It ended up being a 16 and 1/2 hour trip

Now the $64000 question, "Is the Hawk 250 up to the task of a trip from Georgia USA to Ushaia, Argentina?" The trip will easily be 10000 miles. I am mechanically inclined and have always done all my own wrenching. The Hawk's simple design(carb, air cooled) is very attractive from a mechanical point of view. And the price is a very big plus.

Look forward to all opinions, especially owners.

Hawk 250 parts are quite common in Argentina, since the bike is being sold under another name. You should not have trouble finding parts for the bikes. In this part of the continent. Don't know about Central America.

We'll after a long hiatus I'm reviving this thread. I'm tearing the Hawk apart and doing a new build for another foray into Central America this fall. I'm going to get rid of all the plastic, upgrade all the bolts, replace the shock, redo the seat, swap out the handlebars, affix a 520 chain, build side racks, go completely through the wiring harness and who knows what else. Stay tuned b
