Hawk odometer -- why inaccurate?

OK, my new Hawk's odometer has DOUBLED the mileage I've actually ridden. I've ridden at most 10 or so miles since assembly, and it states as of today 22 miles. Hogwash.

So I get that they're ridiculously inaccurate, but I would like to know why. Is there some way to "fix" the accuracy problem without replacing the entire instrument cluster?

Yes there is a fix. Like most of us we just replaced the speedometer with a more accurate digital speedometer.

I get there's a replacement available but am wondering -- besides it being "set" for km -- if there's a way to make it more accurate without spending $70 or so.

Probably so but would not be cost effective. It will take so trial and error on gear swapping as it is a mechanical driven odometer. The digital speedometer is worth it as you will also have a tachometer.

What number suits you? see if we can do a deal etc?
