fuel stabilizer

I''m unable to find a fuel stabilizer here in Ecuador, my moto will be sitting a few months so I stopped by the Bajaj dealer today and asked the mechanic what to do. He told me that they don't use it here and suggested that I use WD-40. He says I would have to use a whole can of WD-40, slosh it around in the tank and run it through the carburetor, according to him, there will be no varnish buildup. Well, I'm not sure if I believe this or not, what do you guys think?

I don't think so Doc, I've seen several brand of gas treatment but that's it. I'll sort something out tomorrow, I don't think the WD-40 would harm the moto but have decided not to try it.

WD-40 is excellent for the original purpose it was designed for: to displace water. If you're concerned about storing your moto in your specific climate, you could drain the tank and either pour some in liquid WD-40 and slosh it around or fog the interior of the tank with WD-40 spray. Either method will help to prevent corrosion.

I'd simply drain the carb, remove the bowl and dry it out. A little compressed air will speed up the process.

Personally, I wouldn't run WD40 through the carburetor. As usual, I think Weld has offered excellent advice.

fuel stabilzer

Hello .. I was told that mixed fuel as used in a 2 stroke does not crap out... for short periods maybe for 6 months or more it might.. can you just get premium fuel down there??? or as WELDAND GRIND says... drain it all out.. carb & everything..

With my lawn equipment I usually just run them out of gas before storage.

For the mixed gas I buy the no-ethanol premium found at a few stations around here. I run it in the mowers and tractor too. Cost about 50 cents more a gallon than regular, but I don't have carb or fuel line problems.

I think the best thing to do is to just drain the gas and empty the carb.

I think that emptying the carb is preferred over just running the carb out of fuel, because the fuel below the jets will remain in the bowl.

The stroke carbs do not have a bowl to drain. Leaf blower, trimmer etc. I do drain the bowls on the lawn mowers.

I find it interesting that a person can get alcohol free fuel in Kansas. Even out here in the Pacific Northwest, most fuel is contaminated with alcohol. Another option if a person cannot find fuel stabilizer, would be Aviation fuel. Aviation's fuel is very stable, and will never harm anything, even if left in for about a year.

You have to look for it. The closest pump is 15 miles away, but I will get about 20 gallons at a time. We use it in all the small engines. The price is higher than premium.

There is more of these pumps than E85 pumps. My work vehicle is E85, but I cannot find a pump to fill it at.
