What Did You Do to Your RX3 Today?

I admit, i had to look that one up. I am a pretty bright guy, but I swear I had no idea that at -40, Celsius and farenheit coincide and are the same...or even how that formula works. I'd rather visit Moscow in the summer, thank you!

Yes, summer in Moscow is much more comfortable, and people much less. (~12-15% of Russia's population in one city is a bit too much). And in the summer and nice and comfortable as in St. Petersburg.

Formula for Celsius and Fahrenheit: С*9/5+32=F (I was surprised that the same is -40)

jbfla Friends of the Belarusian and Russian forums wondering where to buy a trap liquid? We all who have gone down this site changed it to the metal tee without absorber.

Today on Mrs 2LZ RX3? I did the oil change, filters and screens....plus remounted the rear trunk mounting plate more to my liking.

There's been a lot of chatter on another thread about "why change the oil on a new bike if the oil is good stuff?"

Well, I'll tell you why. I did an oil filter change on this blue bike when my brother had it. I figured with so few miles at the time (72), no reason to check the screens. Well, I did the full change today...and lo and behold, the right side screen un-threaded by hand....and it's never been touched since the factory. Good reason to change the oil on an new bike.

Also, I used this fancy funnel for the first time.

It worked very well, though putting 15W-40 through it in 35' was like molasses in January.
The best part is it fit perfectly in the little oil fill hole. No dribbles or mess.

Is it more complex than a funnel should be? Probably...but I like it. The benefits are that (mainly) it fits in that dang little hole. Secondly you can measure the ".7 quarts" that these require after the first quart. I'm using gallons now so the measurements come in handy.
Third, you can open it and close it by twisting the neck. Nice to have that control.

Like I said though, the only drawback was that I had to hold it for an eternity to drain the thick stuff. I'm sure that will be different in the Spring thaw.

I've had one of these funnels for a few years now, I love it.....even has a screen in it to "filter" out larger particles

Hey jbfla...yeah, explain about that OCS glass thingy.... have you sent out any oil for analysis? Where'd you get it? I like it. Also, I don't want to start an oil debate.... BUT, I know they are recommending 20-50W, but I've always run Delo 400 or Rotella Synthetic (or dino) 15-40W... anyone have any suggestions? I'm a cheapo, and would rather run the Delo/Rotella, if it's the same, or close to the same as the 20w50.

I think I remember you saying the fuel % in your oil went down. That's a good thing, so onto the catch bottle...did you make it? buy it? or is it a secret pending patent approval

Either way, I like your ingenuity and workmanship.

AD, jb and I have each sent multiple oil samples out for analysis. Mine were showing increasing levels of fuel in the oil until I switched over to a hotter thermostat. Now all is good. IMHO, I don't think you will find much difference between 10W40, 20W50, or even 10W60 (recommended by Guzzi and lots of high performance auto brands). The key is to change it frequently. How often? That's where the analysis is handy. I'm slowly increasing the miles per change. If you want to be frugal you can change every 1-2K since the amount of oil is really pretty small. You just do not want to use any oil with friction reducers.

FWIW, jb's rig looks like the kind of water separator you'd use in a compressed air line.

Thanks Peter, I had a moment, and looked up his other posts on it. That helped explain it. I'd like to do the hotter Tstat, and may send you one and some $ to help me, hehe. I could always get one and dremel it out. For now, sadly, food and shelter bills come first until I get out of school. (yay for new career at this stage of my life)

Peter, that's a good conclusion.

Besides the one I posted about on the OCS thread, I have a couple of inexpensive (cheap, less than $10) air, water, oil separators used in air compressors and paint sprayers.

They look functionally the same, but I need to do some testing to see if they condense the same amount of fluids.

Did my 1200 mile valve adjust and checked everything over. Also, deleted the rear bags and bars and mounted the same trunk I put on Mrs. 2LZ RX3, so now they're set up basically the same.

Valve adjust: After #3, I'm finally getting more expedient at them. Didn't bleed once either!
A word of caution. I slightly loosened and rotated a coolant hose clamp about 90' to get better access (straight shot) to one of the intake valves with a long screwdriver.
Of course, it leaked after I fired it for my test burn. Plastics and tank back off, re-tighten stock clamp. Fire it up, still leaked. Had to replace the clamp with a better one. I guess the clamps aren't the best.

So are you saying you won't quit your day job?

Came close to doing similar stunt on one of my jobs, happens when I start thinking about the next job and in too big of a hurry, multitasking is not my forte.

Finally installed the highway pegs for comfort! They are chrome, which really stands out, but who cares. I sure as heck don't. I could spray paint them later to Orange. Got them at Cycle Gear for cheap.

Mad, I have similar if not the same ones on Donkey Ohtie. I hosed them down with some flat black for stealthiness.
