Not sure if this qualifies for dual sport...

Hey all,

From October till now I have done a Honda Ct90...the original dual sport...conversion to a Lifan 125.

Worked thru a lot of issues, but ended up with using the stock intake and a VM26-606 carb. Exhaust is from TboltUSA..the "quiet" pitbike exhaust.

Gets up to 50 easy..with about 55 at the top end. Using a 17 front and 45 stock rear sprocket.

I previously tried a more mild, stock, approach. Using a CT110 intake and VM20-133 carb, stock CT110 exhaust. Rode out well, but not much better performance than a stock 90.

Nice. I've never ridden one but they look like they would be a hoot.

I have been wanting to find a good CT90 or CT110 to do this as well with a 190cc 5spd engine. I really like the color of yours.

I don't know in the US, but people here love to put 150cc and 200c to the Honda DAX (CT70) and clones.

Yeah, I've seen those styles of conversions too. Personally, I would rather stay with the horizontal style engines and do a 4 valve 190cc Daytona engine with a big bore cylinder (212cc). It's just a better all around engine design. It just comes at a steeper price because it is a better design.

Honestly, the one thing I wish could be retained with the engine swaps is the dual range gearbox. That would make them the ultimate dual purpose utility bikes.

Plus they are almost drop in
BUT
I don't know the MSRP for a Daytona Anima in the US, but here they retail around 1400 usd, which is quite steeeeeeep price here. With 1400 you can get a few CB engines or get a rebuild AMC XJ with a free CG engine xD.

Oh, they are close to that price here too.

Those 90cc bikes always make me think about Ed March crossing the globe on his C90. I think a CT90 would probably be better suited for his needs. Best part about those little bikes is that you can pack them up into a couple duffel bags, throw them on a boat or plane as "motorcycle parts" at a fraction of the price of shipping a complete motorcycle and avoid a lot hassle at the boarders too!

There is an Argentinian guy that's following his steps. He went to Ushuaia with the 1985 C90 and from there to Alaska, but after he reached Ushuaia, we were hit by the dammed "covid quarantine"

The C90 are very capable motorcycles.

Ct90

Love the CT90's (we have two 1968's) which we are going to fully restore.

As for a 190cc engine, in my opinion that's be too much. These things are a hoot to ride, but at about 45+ they can get kinda scary. Maybe with street tires they'd handle better (we have Shinko 244's on them).

Everybody seems to be obsessed with speed. I'm finishing up a restore job on our 1965 Yamaha Campus 60. Amazing top speed of scooter land 45. Don't care, it looks cool and I enjoy it for the ride. Same as my Xpect/KPM/VanVan.

And now Honda is asking $4-5k for a 125cc version? No thanks.

Exactly, as if Honda wasnt far enough out in left field with the Groms pricing , they tacked another $500 or more onto the recently re-released 125cc version "Monkey "
and with ABS etc it's $4k -

That is plain retarded for a 125cc Bike with ancient tech aside from the ABS and what fool needs computer assisted braking on a bike barely capable of 45 - 50 mph? I mean really dude, come on!

And that is why i love my Vader 125cc, i have modded it into a killer reliable stunter

at half the cost of a Grom and i can run with them ( and a lot of the time in front of them) all day long.

It's probably been asked before but I will ask again anyway. Why isn't there a CT clone with hi and lo range? Seems like it would sell. They cloned the monkey so why not the CT?
