ordered a new hawk.
New to post here but have been reading a lot. Just ordered a new Hawk 250, should be here next week. Went ahead and ordered a Mikuni carburetor and was wondering when yall put yours together did you go ahead and check the valve clearance before you started it or did you just go ahead and start it up and see how it ran?

Ordered from killer motorsports, and the color is red. Have it coming to my work so I can use the forklift to load it on my trailer.

I did the valves on mine after 20 miles or so. Otherwise, Started right up after I put it together. I did replace the spark plug before running it, just because I already had the NGK.
To me, I didn't like the stock mirrors, so replaced them with dr200 mirrors. The rear brake switch is a little too cheap, so was gonna replace it, but figured I would try epoxy on its two plastic nuts, that seemed to work really well. Other than that, pretty straight forward. Hope you like it. Good luck. |

probably should go ahead and order up new sprockets. for 60mph on roads and still plenty of ooomph for trails, i settled on 16 t front/45 t rear send. if you r a mostly road guy might go for 17t front. also, when you put it together , read the threads here on cautions ie oil, grease the speedo, etc. deal of the decade i think:}

I'd suggest you get a 17 front sprocket. mine is good up to 55 with that, and in town allows you to relax the motor just a bit more. still works pretty good for trails.
go ahead and adjust the valves when you get it. don't trust how they put them in from the factory. Mine ran, but they were tight. lots of tapping now. tappy valves are happy valves! If you've read much here, you already know to check and locktite bolts. if you don't get any type of build instructions, I got some with mine and scanned it in. the PDF is big, but I could email if to you if you want it. |

If you want a little bit of info about the bike's, I have been collecting every tidbit of info I could find about them into one thread. Also make sure you order a few jets for the Mikuni carb, it comes with jets that are too lean (I believe 20 and 100) so you want to swap those out before running it.
http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=15942 Sport Rider - If you want to send me the pdf file or upload it to a file hosting site, we can add it to the thread with credit to you for uploading it. It may help a lot of new HAWK owners. |

X2 on setting your valves before starting the bike. If they're too tight, you're putting unnecessary wear on the rockers and stems. I'd also dump the fish oil out of it before ever starting the engine.

Here is the carburetor I ordered and the jets - they fit right into it perfectly and shipped very quickly. I ordered 4 of each jet cause I like having spares and we ordered two Hawks and the jets fit perfectly into the carb.
