Grease .....

I expected to find this fairly easy, but nowhere can I find a discussion of grease In Regards to motorcycles. If the answer is simply "grease is grease, slather away" I won't object. But I think I would like to grease bearings/axles, and definitely want some dielectric grease on all electrical connections to keep the gremlins away.

Does anyone else use grease? And if so what kind and where?

I'm sure this will turn into a hot topic like oil and octane, but here's my take.
Since the axle bearings are sealed it shouldn't make any difference except to keep the outside seals lubed and make disassembly easier and rust free. The swing arm pivot and steering head bearings are exposed to the elements though.
So I'd just slather away with a good marine grade bearings after you clean off all the pig fat grease that the bikes came with.

The so call sealed bearings are really not sealed. The plastic ring will pop right out with a razor knife and snap right back in after you repack them. I repack mine every year. I would suggest repacking them from the get go. I know my Hawk had very little grease in them.

A hig temp water resistant rated or Marine wheel bearing grease is sufficient for most of the pivots and bearings on the bike.

To add to the "Bearings that need attention" list, The steering head bearings come with almost zero grease on them as well.

This is all I know on grease: Do not use moly in roller bearings. Only on something that slides.

My head bearings had lots of grease, too bad they didn't bother to tighten them down. Lol.
It did save me time packing them....

For motorcycle i mostly used SKF LGWA 2. It's more than enough.

I think neither scenario is a good one. The Hawks are usually tightened well, but bone dry.. No matter what bike it is, I would definitely check. That way you verify there is grease and they are tightened properly.

Just about any marine grade grease will serve you well. All of them are good, some are just more gooder. Pick your poison and roll with it.

Never use any metal based grease or anti-seize on any pivoting or rotating part. Ever. It will actually wear faster!
