Not good? Should I drain it?

I have some Rotella T6 but I thought a motorcycle specific oil would be better?

Rod, not at all. I was speaking to the general audience and should not have quoted your post. I was being facetious due to the fact that there are so many opinions and brands of oils to choose from. You have used the first name in motorcycle oils which as far as I can remember really came into being known for the best motorcycle oil back in the 1970s actevo is their premier Mc lubricant

On a side note, Rotella is Mc specific since it has the JASO certification.

And I use Motul 5100 10/40 or Yamalube if yer get it
from yer Yamaha shop..... "same oil diffrent bottle"

Yamaha would have tested the a$$ of this stuff before they
put there name on it..... good enough for me....

but it an't cheap as either Motul or Yamalube ...

my 2T run Motul 800 2 stroke & Motul Transoil

Walmart sale - FYI

Castrol Actevo 4T Semi-Synthetic 10w40, 1 gal $16.52

Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic 5W-40 Motor Oil, 1 gal. $19.16

I have been using Castrol actevo 4T, and am very pleased with it. This sale is an $8.52 savings from Walmarts regular price . It is almost 4 qts for the price of 2 qts., and $2.50 less than Rotella T6

I just tried some Valvoline 20w50 and the bike really likes it. Smooth shifting. It's only @4-5 bucks a quart so nothing expensive.

Until I see some fuel samples from summer's hot weather come back with lower fuel % in the oil I'm changing mine every 1000 miles. It doesn't cost much and the last sample had pretty degraded viscosity in less the 1k miles. I'd rather just change it until I know it's holding out ok for longer mileage.

I do think running in colder temps is not evaporating the fuel out of the crankcase as well as during warmer riding days. I've noticed the catch tube is filling much more now in the 70's then it was riding in 40's.

I did my first oil change on the new engine and decided to fill it with the amsoil 10W-40 4T that I had on the shelf.

Took it for a ride tonight and wow! The Maxima semi-synth CSC is excellent, but the amsoil shifts even better and quiets the engine. Good stuff!

My (very small) Wally World in town has a woefully small selection of oil. I changed to 15/40 dino oil for the rest of the break in period. I may end up ordering some synth on Amazon when I switch after break in. This is one of the only times I miss living closer to civilization.
