Since it was so toasty warm out today, I figured I'd do some wrenching on the white RX3. Changed the oil, filter and cleaned the screens, made sure battery terminals were tight and clean, capped off the air box spout where the OCS used to plug in, modded my muffler baffle some more with the drill press, and since I just can't take that heat shield buzz any longer, wrapped the header pipe. Tomorrow after it dries, I'll hit it with some spray silicone and call it good. Something tells me I'll have to bring it in by the wood stove to dry.

Update! Got it sprayed and baked today. No more buzz....and it looks very much cool!

Smile 36W LED floodlights installation

Finally I´ve installed the floodlights!

Floodlight mount detail:

Added Mode Selection switch (unafortunately our RX3 version doesn´t has any OEM switch there):

Size: 85.9 KB

Custom built relay assembly:

Size: 81.0 KB

Circuits arrangement:
Name: 8 - Final arrangement [LR 90K].jpg

Size: 89.9 KB

Added an independent circuit straight (fused) to the battery, to not overload the OEM circuitry. The Mode Selection switch allows to operate as Always ON/Always Off/High Beam. The measured power consumption was 1.7A max (clamp meter) at 12.5VDC.

I´ve choosed that mounting place because two things: don´t needed to drill any important point of the structure, and it will be protected against most of the usual fallings.
Perhaps that position is too low. Hadn´t the chance to test it on open roads at night yet; hope it will fullfill the light beam provided by the 30W H4 LED at the OEM housing.

Juan Carlos.

Thumbs Up rear suspension

Today was not exactly the maintenance I did to the bike, it was last week, I changed the bearings and retainers of the rear suspension, all trapeze.

I recommend for those who sound the suspension to perform the maintenance to the whole piece.

Wink 5000km (3000mi) servicing

Hi folks!

Yesterday I´ve started the 5000km (3000mi) servicing on my exclusive (carbureted ) RX3.

After the usual oil change and oil screen/air filter cleaning gone a little further: as long as had the front bake pulsating issue, and some wobbling while driving at high speed (65mph), I´ve decided to go further and played a little more with the front wheel.

Pulsating brake: the disc had a variation up to 0.5mm (0.020"), 3x more than the 0.15mm max allowance. Through some seat filing and 0.1mm shimming hadn´t success to achieve that limit, but reached a 0.20mm value that will be enough for me at this moment.

Wobbling (is it as you call that feeling at the handlebar?): the rim had both some unbalance and uncentering. Found it will require a 15g (1.25oz) lead to solve the unbalance, and adjusted the spokes to lower the miscentering from 1.0mm (0.040") to 0.4mm (0.016"); don´t know how much is the max allowance for it.
As long as reached 3pm under direct sunlight and 35°C (95°F), "becomed satisfied" with the results achieved and stopped.

Still hadn´t the chance to buy the lead nor fully test those improvements, but when driving this morning to my work the handlebar felt very smooth at high speed.

DIY balancer.
The bolts taped to the rim where only to find the spot and weight needed for the balance:

Brake disc max. deviation, after shimming:

Rim max. lateral deviation, as found (1.0mm):

Thanks Merlin.
I hope to complete the job this weekend: check/adjust the same on the rear wheel, verify proper valve clearance, and general hub/link cleaning/greasing.

I like the wheel balancer! Very "China Rider" of you! ;-)

Question with the carbureted version. Does your bike not develop any real power until 5000 rpms also?....or do you have some decent torque at lower R's? I've always wondered if this was the nature of the motor (cam timing, etc...) or is it injector mapping?

No real power under 4K. You -can- chug along at 3K and low speed cruise on some empty streets, as long you don't need to suddenly accelerate. Being carburated, it strongly depends on how well adjusted the carb. is.

NC250 Torque chart

Right, but as long as I know it is an engine characteristic that won´t depends on EFI o carbureted.
The NC250 engine´s best torque region sits between 6500-8000rpm (depicted at the "Me" curve):

Note: the RPM value stated at the x-axis is dynamometer speed, not engine´s; on this test bench "Engine RPMs" = "Dynamometer RPMs" times 2,56.

Regards.

Thanks for the info guys. I always wondered if the "almost 2 stroke" power band was the result of EPA requirements and injector mapping.

The 13 tooth does help the slower speeds and taking off out of the hole.....but the RX3 doesn't have that nice torque sweep across midrange that the TT250 has.
