Hawk Header pipe question

While looking at the RPS website for Hawk exhaust parts I noticed that, according to the picture, there appears that a replacement "connecting pipe" (header pipe) doesn't have the cat in it. I'm thinking of gutting my cat BUT if the replacement pipe doesn't have a cat in it why not just buy that one and have the original to put back on if I ever need to? Maybe you all or Adam can shed some light on this for me. Here is the link to the RPS page http://therps.net/DB-Hawk.html. You have to click on parts then on carburetor, muffler tab. It won't let me link directly to that page for some reason. You can click the pic to get a larger view.

Only $18 (plus shipping) from CSC and I think it's the same Header pipe too

Yea, I looked at that one. I'll have to go look at the actual pipe on my Hawk to see if it would work. If it's close enough it might be able to be cut/modified to work. $17 sure beats $50.

The early Hawks had a header pipe that was slip-over, later Hawks use a flange. Unless you have an early Hawk, your only way to get rid of the cat is to gut your existing header pipe.

Honestly, I'm making these prices up as I go, if something seems high let me know. Right now I'm just working on the HTML, then I'm gonna go back through and look more closely at the prices. Also note the prices include shipping.

Also there's some logistical complexity with parts pricing, we have to anticipate demand months in advance... if we order too many we lose money on overhead, if we order too few we don't have enough. I've been doing a bit of math, but basically the more Hawks we sell, the cheaper we can sell parts. We need to find qualified mechanics to assemble them, since most people really shouldn't be doing self-assembly. If we sell enough Hawks, we can ship parts in bulk to different parts of the country and cut the shipping cost.

congratulations on the parts web site (new to me). this is a great resource advantage of hawk owners to be able to identify and purchase parts for their model. i am a happy bashan owner but i don't have this resource and roketa parts is one of those places that are not so helpful since they have the 200cc bikes but not the 250cc listed. no place to correctly identify the part numbers (afaik)...

this shows your commitment to your future sales and longevity of your models.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I haven't removed the head pipe yet but I just got the bikes in last month so I'm pretty sure they have a flange on the head pipe. I'm trying to get a few more HP from my Hawk BUT I don't want it too loud. The ZRX I sold I actually got it so loud that you could hear it 5 miles away (as the crow flies!!). Way too loud for me. I just want to make sure I can reverse what I do if it is obnoxiously loud. I've looked into aftermarket but don't want to spend $140+ on a complete system. I know a few of you all have gutted the cat. How much louder did it make it?

Adam, it's hard to tell from the picture on the website if the head pipe has the cat in it or not. Anyway you can verify if it does or doesn't? Also it is nice to see parts on your website. Keep up the great work.

I asked the mechanic he said that there's only a gasket in there.

Well I gutted it and made a new muffler insert. I'll start a new thread with pics. Turned out pretty good.

Gutting the cat, not much louder. Modifying muffler, much louder. Not unbearable to me , but I can be heard.
