DG exhaust

Hi, I'm planning to upgrade my Vento (Zongshen sierra 200) with the DG exhaust for the tw200 2006. Mine is 2006 also but not sure if the DG will fit exactly or need some mods before mounting the DG. Is there any difference in mounting set up compared to older models (e.g., DG tw200 2006 vs. 2001).?

Thanks

No, it is not likely to fit exactly. I bought the same exhaust for my TW, but I haven't installed it yet. There is also not likely any difference between modern TW200's and those made in 1987. The only real difference is a disc front brake and a more powerful stator.

The dg 2000 cost about $150 and the 2006 about $200. Thus, $50 bucks difference. Weld, wich one you recommend? what kind of mod is needed to install the exhaust?

Thanks

I'm not sure what the mounting difference will be between the old TW200 and the new TW200, nor am I sure about what mods will be needed for your Zong.

I can guess that the mounting tab will be in the wrong position, and you'll need to either have a new one welded to the frame, or make a bracket that fastens to your existing bracket.

While you're replacing the muffler, I would recommend that you buy a used TTR-230 or XT225 header pipe. That is the style of pipe that the DG is designed for, and they're made of stainless steel.

To answer your question another way, I would buy the less expensive DG and make it work.

Weld, the diameter of the header pipe is 1.25 in, will it fit into the exhaust?

That is exactly the inside diameter of the exhaust gasket of my TW200, so it looks like a match.

You can likely use your stock head pipe, but stainless is much easier to keep clean, and it won't rust. I got a used TTR230 / XT225 stainless header on eBay for cheap.

My plan is to buy on ebay for $160 and the head pipe is around $50 if I can get'em for less than $220 I will, if not (the vendor on ebay page who sells dg's is closed) I will get it directly from DG web page ($200). I want to to shift the stock head pipe but if I can't pay it I will do it one at a time.

Good idea. You can always upgrade to the SS pipe later.

You might need to go to a bigger main jet in your carb with the new muffler. Easy and cheap.

I would recommend the FMF Universal Spark Arrestor instead of the DG muffler. The FMF silencer is less expensive, and will be easy to install on your Zongshen 200GY-2.

You can buy a stainless steel, XT225 exhaust header and the FMF silencer for less than the $200 DG muffler, and I'm sure the installation will be much easier.

You're right, I've been searching on the web and found the FMF Universal Turbine Core 2 from $116 to 129. This exhaust is for 2 stroke and I think you installed on your zong, right? Also, I need to buy the brake pads (GS750 suzuki) and 4 mainjets (2 sizes bigger and 2 smaller) in case of need'em.

Yes, I installed an FMF Universal Spark Arrestor on my Zong.

Here are four vendors selling the FMF Universal Spark Arrestor. The prices range from $102.59 to $109.04.
