nice bike! looks like new from a distance, except the chain needs oiling.

speaking of oil: if the zong yamaha copy is a guide, the 200cc version takes 1300 ml of oil, which comes to 1100 or 1200 at an oil change. the block in your TTR looks the same, with the sightglass. i fill up to the top level at that sight glass.

I downloaded the ttr manual it says 1000ml for change 1300ml if filter is done aswell

I ended up adding a tiny bit out of another bottle
So I maybe used 1100ml if that
It's at top level mark of sight glass

Dave

Edit. I was going from memory before

Not to turn this into a this vs that thread.

But here's the oil I bought for the bike this diecent stuff ?
It's the only 4 stroke motorcycle oil the lordco here had on the shelf
I didn't want to just throw some 10w30 standard oil in this bike like I used to do when I was a kid lol

Thanks

Dave

Today's motor oils are vastly superior to the motor oils from thirty years ago. As long as you use any good motor oil of the proper weight, you engine will stay healthy. Changing the motor oil frequently is much more important than choosing one brand of motor oil over another.

You might enjoy reading the following articles on engine oil for motorcycles.

TurboT found that Castrol turned to nasty black thin crap in short order. 15W40 diesel oil lasted much longer, and he felt much better about an oil change every 10 hours.

All of my bikes and quads drink Rotella 15W40, but only because I got it on sale. I'd use any brand of 15W40 diesel.

Interesting. The oil I drained seemed really thin. Shrugged it off
And this oil seemed abnormally thin to me for 20w50 coming out the bottle. But I've never used a motorcycle spacific oil before.

I'm going to run this oil for now anyways as it's done now.

Ok so here goes another dumb question lol
Why diesel oil ?

Thanks

Dave

We took the bikes out for a ride yesterday. Had a blast no pictures but my brother got a short video of me and the wife riding down the road.

She's still learning. But yesterday she started shifting between 1st and 2nd

I wanted to see what my bike would do so I turned gps app on on my phone and put it in pocket.

I'm surprised. I didn't think it would go that fast. I'm sure I could of got it to an even 100

I hopped on the xr and tryed it aswell. It wasn't running the best but squeezed this out of it.

Still needs some carb work. But wife seems to be enjoying it more and more

Dave

So I posted an ad for passenger pegs
http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=13946

Weldangrind said he sent them on Tuesday so I wasn't expecting them this week at all.

I went to the post office and in my box I had a pickup slip. I'm usually always waiting for packages but I found this odd as I was only expecting one thing that could not fit in my PO box

I had a feeling right away that canada post possibly pulled a mirical (kidding aside they've really improved since I started ebaying ect)

Opened it up

I settled on China take offs as I was having a hell of a time trying to source TTR specific pegs/mounts. So I figured I'd just modify a set and save money.

First impressions extremely promising

Had to leave to my moms for a bit. Got home after dark and continued (sorry for dark pics. I'll get better ones tomorrow)

I completely overlooked that the mount on right side was different.
I have a nut as a spacer for now :s
But went on rather smooth. Need more proper hardware using nuts and bolts for now. Might modify this mount slightly you'll know what I mean shortly
Or I might just live with it as is

Right side again

Left side went on as if it was a factory foot peg

Left side again

So the reason I'm thinking of modifying the one mount

One side is lower then the other. I hopped on and it's hardly noticeable and still comfortable.
The wife came out and hopped on with me on it aswell and says she can't tell. She's excited to go for a rip with me.

We are planning on taking the bikes out again tomorrow possibly quad too

Thanks for reading

Dave

I think if I make an "extension" piece the thickness of the nut. Long enough to rotate the mount back level with the left side I'd be set. Or am I over complicating things and should just leave it ?

I would leave it alone; it looks good to me.

I gave my Zongshen, passenger foot pegs to my Christian Brother Andy, who mounted them on his Yamaha TT-R225.

Dave, I'm shocked that the mounts line up with the TT-R mounting holes! That's a good stroke of luck.

I'm glad they arrived so quickly. I hope you and your wife enjoy them.

I was expecting to be doing some modifying aswell
I'm extremely happy with the result

Thanks weld. I'm glad I got them put on for tomarrow
Jess (my wife) says she likes the idea of hopping on the back when she wants to take a break from her bike.
She's still learning the whole clutch bike thing. She's doing very well
First time on it was 1st gear all day to get used to the clutch (I set the idle high to make starting off a little easier)
2nd time the bike called it quits on us (was before I cleaned the gas tank out)
3rd time was shifting between 1st and 2nd

You're welcome.

Be careful to not let Jess try your TT-R; you might not get it back.
