Solenoid Irritations

TBR7 2020 model.

I have burned out two solenoids in two weeks.

Engine is not difficult to start, the things just die and no longer connect.

I can still fire the engine crossing over the poles. Starter button just will not work and the button passes continuity check.

I have also rigged a push button to jump the poles and it burns that out after a half dozen starts too. Two of them in fact.

It starts fine when I use a pair of pliers across the poles. That is just a little embarrassing on occasion.

Any guesses to the problem?

Use a bigger bike solenoid
Anything like ATV Honda or the likes
The 2 small wires connect randomly to stock unit as it’s a relay after all
Old car unit would do it too - bigger amp rating should solve killing it

Get your hands on a Goldwing starter solenoid. They were all 2 wire from the 1000 through the 1800,and those big 6's in particular draw a lot of amps through that starter. Over 60 bucks for a Genuine Honda unit. https://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-HON...YAAOSwTQtaEHL8

Part number is 35850-MZ0-J10 if you want to search around for one.

Or you can get cheap knock offs on Amazon all day long for about 10 bucks. Results may vary.

Third option is to get a second hand one from a wrecker off of ebay like this one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-2001-...AAAOSw3kxbfeWy

Obviously you may have to do a tiny bit of wiring work to make it connect to your bike, but that is pretty basic soldering and/or crimping.

If one of those relays fails you, then you have an issue elsewhere.
