old member/"renewing"

After months in a secret location, okay, bogged down by work, and not so secret, I am back. I have a non-Chinese ride, too--a 1984 Honda Ascot VT500, but still long for the Qingqi 200 motard. Will have to readjust here, and get to know all the new members.

Welcome.
"New" 1982 CX500 Turbo for $3000 or 1984 VT500 for close to the same dollars.
Techno-geek even then, so I bought the Turbo  .
The boost was fun, but I was far from safe on that thing. Sold it after one too many cars pulled out in front of me while on boost. The darned thing didn't want to slow down. 8O
I would probably still have the Ascot.
Bill

I vaguely remember the CX500 turbo, but then again, I was about 14/15 years old, so alot of bikes have come and gone (not as many in my possession as on my mind, LOL). I can imagine your dilemma with boost--the Ascot has quite a decent amount of power, and once up to 60 mph gets light on the front, so a quicker bike getting to 60 + I can imagine being a handful.

I paid $1k for the bike, so not too bad of depreciation over 25 years, although I have a feeling many $$'s were spent keeping it on the road...

Ironfist, thanks for the re-welcome--do you still have your CB?

"I was wonderin what happened to ya, Thought You might have got busted running things across the border." AZ, I haven't been caught yet, bringing cigarettes over, LOL.

Tigertamer-thanks-I think you were a new member when I "left" the site.

Hope to catch up with the rest of you through the forums, email, and even better--in person, somewhere preferably by bike.

I was 23 then and used to riding around on dirt bikes or cruisers.
One of our favorite things to do with the Turbo was to get into 2nd or 3rd gear, just easing along and roll on the throttle.
The boost gauge would start climbing, then WHAM :!: it would slide you back on the seat and lift the front wheel up a bit.
Lotsa drive-by "Hey ya'll, watch this :!: "
(Yes, I'm originally from Mississippi and was raised on a farm, so I qualify  )

Bill

It is a good looking bike, all you need is some side covers

Yep, album on page 15 of the gallery. It's stripped, the wireing harness comes off today. Gonna repaint the frame,(rattle can, primer, semi gloss-black, and top coat-clear.) Re-doing the motor, frame welds, well the whole bike. Winter is long, might as well have a nice bike come spring. It's a decade older than your new bike. I love that turbo idea. I bought racing carbs, same idea, but less than turbo
