idle issue

Hey All,

New here but have a question...bought my son the Tao Tao 125 New Cheetah, has the FNR drive system, when I start it it idles extremely high, like full throttle high in Neutral. As soon as I shift into D the idle drops to normal, but then I can't get it to shift back into Neutral without killing the engine. Has anyone had an issue like this before. I've tried adjusting the carb...makes no difference at all. Wondering where to go next to try and take care of the issue. I'd send it back to the dealer but Im in Oregon and they're in Texas. So If I can get it fixed would rather just do it instead of going to all the hassle. Starting to wonder if it could be an electrical issue.. IDK...Thanks for any help.

I would look for a vacuum leak.

Before looking for leaks - the choke isn't on, and the idle screw is correctly adjusted, right?

Along with what franque says above, make sure the throttle slide isn't installed backwards in the carb throat and not closing all the way. The beveled edge of the slide goes to the rear (airbox) end of the carb.

What they said, something in the carb is causing it.
