Trying to sell lifan duel sport.
I have a question on selling a Lifan duel sport I got back in 2009. long story but I got stuck with a bike with no bill of sale and no paper work. the seller was online in TX and sometime after buying it the website was gone. This was a crate bike I bought and put together. the engine was never started or used. Its been sitting here for a long time now. I live in louisiana and just want to sell the bike. any advice on how to do that?

I think I remember some issues with the old American Lifan headquartered in Dallas (they have since reorganized and are in So. California) and one of their enduros, the GY-2, which I assume is what you have. From what I remember, Lifan imported a bunch here, but they were off-road only bikes, and American Lifan wanted to get rid of them cheap and quickly and without paperwork. They had also been having issues with other importers bringing in their very popular GY-5 enduro as 'gray-area' bikes, but that is a different story. Anyway, they refused to sell the bikes with paperwork, and were essentially parts bikes, which a fly-by-night outfit must have gotten hold of for cheap and sold them as street-legal bikes. You mentioned Texas, and getting ripped off, so my guess is the fly-by-night company was owned by a guy from India who nicknamed himself 'Manny.' You won't get that, but there will be members here that do...

Right now I'm just wondering if I can sell this thing as a dirt bike and not have a need to register it or have a title if that is even possible. I'm currently in the state of Louisiana. Last edited by mdx1980; 03-27-2019 at 08:56 AM. |

I would check with the DMV. I think there's a process you can go through to get it titled.

I know you can get a bonded title through a company for a fee, but perhaps there is a free route through your state's DMV?

If all else fails you could apply with a custom motorcycle frame MCO. https://mcostore.com/MCO-MOTORCYCLE-FRAME.htm

What legal problems would you possibly have? Half the bikes on Craigslist are sold without titles (especially dirt bikes), and even some cars and trucks.
Why wouldn't it come back clean?! You've had it since 2009 and you bought it while it was still in a crate. It's never been titled before...makes sense the VIN is clean. I liked Jerry's recommendation the best. Seen here: Quote:
