1950 bsa at a flea market in ct. They want 1200. Doesn't kick over but assures me it is not seized.

Maybe bring some kind of Top Cylinder Lube/Cleaner (like Marvel Mystery Oil, or Kroil, or Amsoil Power Foam, or "P'Blaser, or LMT", or...), just pull the spark plug, pour an ounce or so onto the Piston and put the spark plug back in... come back in an hour or so and see if the thing turns over... might just have a "locked up engine" due to the piston/ring from sitting for several years...

yeah I'm not really thinking of buying it, it just looks cool. Unless you pulled it from the barn itself, odds are there is more to it then just a stuck motor that needs a little persuading to turn over. if it was that easy the seller would have done it and gotten even more for it.

I don't get the 'not seized' part??? Doesn't kick over, unless the kick starter itself is broken, is the definition of seized. Stuck piston rings etc is 'seized'. Not saying it can't be unseized but seized is seized.

When I was a young kid ,my buddies brother had a Honda 350 or 400 twin ,that did everything right ,started ,ran good ,was just a great bike .Anyways ,one day he brought home a new bsa that did everything wrong .He woke up the entire neighbourhood starting it in the mornings ,his swearing did anyway ,he hardly ever got it to start in the morning .Luckily ,he had not got rid of the Honda ,who despite being replaced ,still merrily carried old Frankie to work almost every day .I never did see the bsa after the first summer ,it's probably buried in his back yard .

As a former BSA owner, I have to agree with the consensus. Run.

For the price that it would take you to get that fixed up, you could buy a brand-new Royal Enfield and get all the joy of riding an antique British bike without the hassle.

So Brit bikes are junk too, like their cars? My bro in law has a Lotus Esprit V8 Twin turbo and I'm waiting for it to burst into flames and take out his garage full of toys.

I couldn't drive my MG Midget more than 20 miles from home before I had turn it around. Otherwise it would quit before I got back. Despite that, I still loved that car.
