Kpx 250 replacement fork oil weight

Hey guys! Question, what weight fork oil should we be using on our kpx’s? I’m coming up to 10k mi and need to replace the oil. Anyone with experience doing this please jump in!

I replaced my fork oil with 10w oil @JerryHawk250's recommendation. I did it early on since I felt the forks compressed excessively under hard breaking and it did seem to make a difference. I did remove both forks to pour the oil out from the top and replaced it with the same amount I removed from each fork leg. Are you wanting to change the oil because you have 10k miles or because you want to change the ride quality?

Thanks idaho! I’ll fallow that procedure with help from the service manual. Just changing it for maintenance but a little firmer wouldn’t be terrible, the front does compress quite a bit under heavy breaking.

I'll be curious to hear how much of a difference you notice.

I’ll definitely post here with the results Idaho! Waiting on some 10w motul oil to come in the mail. Was it you that had some trouble with changing the oil out and had to get new forks sent under warranty? If so, what problems did you run into?

I thought one of the internal fork washers had split and bent and sent pictures to Venom illustrating what I thought was a problem, and they seemed to agree with that assessment and sent me a new complete fork. The replacement fork was the same and i realized that's how it was supposed to be and they didn't seem to know any better than I. I felt kind of dumb after that but not too bad since they didn't seem to know any better than I.

Have you noticed any difference since changing the oil?

Those split washers are indeed part of the design of the fork. They are deflection washers, and it acts as part of the valving system. They are designed to resist moving until a certain pressure is met, and then deflect just enough to allow pressure to bleed off. A big part of modern fork tuning is adjusting that washer stack, both number, size, etc to change the pressure threshold.
