MN Registration

Today I got my license plate for my t-motorsports LF200GY-5. It took 2 trips but I got it. There was no engine number on the MSO, which is required here. I think they wanted to see the DOT stamp on the MSO also. I provided the engine number and a photo of the DOT sticker on the swing arm. I also had t-motorsports fill out the MSO (dealer #), which I sent to them after receiving the mc. I also had a bill of sale (not the ebay receipt). They didn't pay any attention to the bill of sale. I'll be happy when I receive the title from the state. They might still want to inspect my mc.

Fortunately, his bike is 49-state street legal according to DOT (sorry, liverchip, you need not apply!) but he still has a couple of hoops to jump through.

BTW, liverchip, lsmotorsports.com (the maker of the Diamo branded bikes) claims that their enduros are 50-state street legal. I think that you should be the guinea pig and purchase one and tell us all if this is actually true, LOL. Seriously, try to contact lsmotorsports, and see what they tell you. I know that you complained about not having a street legal enduro for Calif., and if their claim is true, you could have at least one choice....

OVERVIEW

we were told owr Vivas were 50 state legal. and the dealer Famley motor sports was in LA Cal.

I doubt the claim. Calif. is fairly strict with its own CARB laws, and some of these importers try to claim CARB legal as being street legal. CARB legal, in most cases, means that the bike gets a Calif. off-road sticker; green or red. The green ones allow the rider to ride year round in designated off-road areas--the red stickers allow one to ride in designated off-road areas for certain months of the year :? :?: although no one can figure out the logic and reasoning to that one.

Just to throw in something more, California has the audacity to claim that it can enforce the sticker rule on private property! Throw in their firearms restrictions and other socialistic laws and Catastrophix and other Europeans will soon have a new member of the EU to welcome aboard!![/u]

Gotta love my state. First thing I did on my smog-legal, Green Sticker bike is remove all the smog control crap.

Back on topic:
Minnesota statute (the statute number is 168A.085 if you wish to look it up) says you need the following to get a title and registration:
-EPA and DOT approval.
-MCO/MSO signed over to your name and address.
-Original bill of sale.
And yes, they will need both the VIN and engine number (the number was the same for each on my Lifan--the VIN on the right side of the frame just below the handlebars and the engine number stamped on the engine just below the shifter). If the DMV worker forgets to take both of these numbers down, the state will be contacting you later to get them before your title will be mailed to you (it happened to me), so make sure they take down both numbers.

I forgot, he did have a fellow MN'an to get the registration advice from. Unless MN has decided to take Calif.'s CARB requirements for bikes (as some states have done for cars), the Lifan should be able to be registered with no (well, with MN being a "liberal" state, some) problems.

I should note that you can at least register a Chinese bike in the EU; not in California!

I do believe, MsRandi removed her smog control stuff from her Calif. bike too....

Kept burning a hole in a hose or something.
