Victory troubles

2003 Victory, sputters when it's cruising, and they've changed the throttle position sensor, reflashed the computer, new spark plugs and that didn't fix it.. The shop doesn't really seem to have a clue, any of you victory owners have any ideas?

I think 2LZ has a couple of them, maybe if he sees the thread he'll have an idea.

I'm not sure exactly what the shop looked at, it's my dad's bike. I believe they are working ok though... The bike has very low km's on it too.

stick a flat head screw driver tip to the fuel injecter connection on top of the injecter. put your ear to the butt of the handle and try to turn it over. you might not be able to hear anything but you are listening for a clicking sound. the clicking sound is the sound of the injecter opening and closing..

My guess is clogged injectors, but I don't really know. It may be the bike has not been ridden enough to keep them clean.

Wow! Sorry I missed this one guys! Been doing nothing but working.... :(

03. That's a Freedom motor so they're incredibly trouble free. I'm not saying that just because I'm a multi-Vic owner, it's just that they come up with so few problems, many times you're not sure where to start looking.

Here's what I'd start with:

Of course....make sure there's no recalls like a fuel pump or anything like that. That can be accessed through the dealer.

Secondly, I'm sure you've checked or changed the plug, checked or cleaned the fuel filters in the tank. The air filter is usually a K&N and is serviceable.....but I've never seen it cause a runnability issue.

Also, check to make sure both the sensor connections at the oil temp sensor where the oil rail goes into the front cylinder (right side, under tank, between cylinders) and also, the crank sensor connection coming out of the cases on the left side are clean and making a good connection. Once in a Blue Moon, one will weap a little and ground out the connector. Rare but has happened.

Most importantly, remove, clean and retighten the battery connections! I've seen loose battery terminals do odd things on Vics and other ECM driven bikes.

I have seen, just once, a wiring problem, behind the left side cheese wedge at the key. It was routed incorrectly, rubbed and was grounding.

Hope you get it worked out without much trouble. I'd say, being in the Vic World since it's inception, the BIGGEST problem we've had, BY FAR, has been ineffective dealers. The bikes are awesome.....but when there is an occasional service issue, many dealers fall woefully short.
Generally, they're small places with a young wrench, fresh out of tech school, who doesn't have any real experience wrenching, let alone, on a new type of modern motorcycle.

I'm hoping that your dads dealer at least checked all the obvious stuff, including the TPS setting. That's extremely critical. It could be way out of voltage wack and making it run either super rich or super lean at cruise.

Also, check to see if the intake rubber boot has any cracking. Some of the early ones had some cracking due to heat.

Keep us posted! I'm interested to see anything Vic so I can pass it along.

Feel free to log into "thevmc.com". Lots of great info there....much like here....but like any huge forum, steer clear of the henhouse crap.

I don't have one, and don't plan to get one, but I really like Victory's.

If I wanted a big aircooled V-Twin I'd seriously consider them over a HD.

Better performance by a wide margin, plus they are a little different.

I like that.

Actually, drastically different. The only thing they share is a V style motor...and the angle isnt even the same.....but I won't bore anyone with details. 8)

I'd still love to get your impressions on a Vision or Cross Country test ride....being a Winger!

I gotta get around to that.

My free time has been so limited.

I have the pleasure of Miss Megan's company more and more. Less time to ride Victories. I will get to it soon though. Maybe saturday.

That's good to hear! I haven't been here much lately but kinda wondered about that. If I recall.......you said something about treating you like a baby seal if things got out of hand???? 8)
