Should I leave the crash bars on or take them off?

I'm leaning towards removing them. I think the bike would look cleaner and more original.

Opinions?

I like 'em. On that era bike they fit the look.

I'm trying to figure out if they are original or added on sometime over the years. Another thought it I plan to maybe use the bike as a trainer for the GF...

I'd like them off, but not decided.

If you want to use it for training then maybe leave them on.

It really looks good both ways. Off gives it a cleaner, lighter appearance.

If it's going to be a trainer bike for the girlfriend, leave them on. However, I think the bike looks much better with the bars removed.

I could'nt take it so I removed them. With an air driven ratchet I can put them on again for a beginner in about 10 minutes. It felt like I was riding a bike with training wheels! Much cleaner without them.

On the way home from work the bike hit reserve for the first time since I've had it. Died on a long hill 8O . Took me a long few seconds to figure out! Petcock to reserve and a minute to fill the bowls and I was off to the gas station on the way home.

Life is good.

How are the carbs performing after installation of the new gaskets, Doc?

Re the original question, the bike would look better with the bars off, but they're cheap insurance. Maybe you could find a slimmer set that you could live with full time.

The carbs are 99%, Spud. All that remains to be done is to synchronize them, and I hope to get Andy to do that for me this weekend. She's a runner, Spud. Took her to work again today.

The crash bars are off, I can put them on in less than 10 minutes if I want. Looks MUCH BETTER! I'll snap a pic later if I get the chance.

After work I'll take the long way home from work again, hopefully put another 50+ miles on her today. I like this little machine.

It is so compact with some knobbies it could almost be a D/S bike!

Wonderful! The bike looks much better without the crash bars, Doc. Thank you for posting the photograph; I love looking at this motocycle.
