The Husky Terra 650 is a very nice motorcycle, but it only weighs 25 pounds less than the KLR650.

The Terra has a curb weight of 408 pounds.

Your XR is an excellent relatively light bike, Spud :-)

I thought KLR's weighed much more. Lord knows I've picked them up enough to know.

The KLR has been around almost unchanged since 1984, has tons of aftermarket support, excellent dealer support, and used and new parts availability. The Husqvarna has none of those things, and they matter.

On the other hand it sure is cool.

One on sale here with like 1,000 miles in new condition for $6,000. Not as cheap as a KLR either, but the chassis/suspension/engine/electronics are worth the $.

Lol, it's just that the KLR's are heavy sleepers and don't like getting up from naps

Spud's XR is nice and light compared to my KLR, he's done a very good job of lightening the big red beasty!

Did you know KTM bought Husaberg and Husqvarna? Many of the 2014 Husqvarna bikes are rebadged Husabergs.

Don't forget, I've had 4 KLR's in my lifetime and consider them one of the best bikes ever. ;-) Just having fun.

True. Another reason I abandoned my purchace of a Husky last year. Too much turmoil. Scandanavians, Italians, Germans?

Husabergs are rebadged KTM's also...

I just watched Episode 1 of The Long Way Round. Those guys should have taken KLR650 motorcycles on that trip!

I love those series!

I agree, a lighter bike would have made the whole trip a lot more enjoyable! I watched them horsing those things out of mudholes and wondered how they didn't destroy their backs! The GS650 would have been a much much better choice! I remember on the Long Way Down (or Round?) when Claudio had to switch to the lightweight bike when his brakes went out. He rode circles around Ewan and Charly on the 250!

Claudio was ecstatic to ditch the behemoth GS1150 for the lightweight motorcycle!

On that trip I would rather ride my Zong than the huge BMW bike.
