Gear Indicators

Okay China Riders have a question. Where is the sending unit for the gear indicator located? Is it in the motor housing? I'll be home later this week and was going to see if I could get that indicator light working. So any input before I get started would be appreciated.

Found this pic for starters. That s front sprocket so you can see indicator wires leads into the transmission case .

Hoping to find a pic of the actual indicator disk mounted in position

Head Scratching

The gear indicator on my brand new Bashan also went south so I could really use this info. It shows a 0 in neutral or the left line of the 0 goes out in any gear?

Sounds like Burned out led, have to replace

Search images with something like " china bike led gear indicator "on google, eBay or Amazon to match it up

Very often the wire is simply trapped by the cover. Remove the cover, reposition the wire and see if joy results.

The problem could be in the connection as well. Often the prongs will fail or are never correct on inside the plastic connection. Sometimes you have one loose from the start and then another one or several come loose later on with vibrations. You can normally pull the connection apart and it will become obvious if there is a loose terminal. From there you just have to get a precision screwdriver or something small to push out the fins on the terminal. It's always good to make sure there is a little slack in the cables as well.

My problem was a diode's lead rubbing on a bolt shorting it out. Rerouted and taped the cable and now all's good.

The led display looks pretty rough, wonder if I can test it some how? I'll have to play around with it.

Display unit can tested by jumping wires (dummy circuit)
The typical 5-gear had 7 wires [1]+ & [6]- N(0)/1 to 5

If it works OK, then find the ??? in the engine side (s/w unit | black thingy as #4)
