So, since my work schedule is changing i have today off and thought I would tinker around a bit more.
Tried a 38 pilot. Still a bit too rich, but less than 3 turns out. 32 pilot, does work, air screw 1 1/4 out, but too lean. 35 pilot, just about right. I still have to play with it, but air screw is between 1 1/2 and 2 turns out. Swapped the main down to a 125. Doesn't cut out but still bogs and throws lots of soot. 120 is next. I can definitely say that there is a lot more draw on the jets with this carb vs. the pz30.

Ok, so 35 pilot, air screw about 1 7/8 turns out seems to be the ticket. 120 main and the black soot cloud is gone. I left the needle in the third notch, but I need to ride it to get a good feel. Going to spend time with my better half now, so no runs just yet, but if I have some free time tonight I will take it for a rip.

It's gotten pretty hot here and was getting a little off throttle bogging. I swapped out my pilot to a 38 yeasterday and so much crisper throttle response. Still running 125 main. 120 was a little lean.

Wow wow wow!
Ok, so even though I mention it in the video. My magic jetting numbers at this point are a 35 pilot and a 130 main jet.
This bike pulls like I never imagined a Hawk with tall gearing could ever pull. The difference in power even all the way down at just off idle compared to my PZ30B is incredible. I can roll on at 3000rpm in 3rd and the bike just pulls like a train, and it doesn't even feel like it is being lugged at all. The fact that I can FEEL the difference says a lot. Having just ridden it yesterday with the PZ30B installed, in almost identical weather, I can say for sure it is not in my head and that the PZ30 was holding me back. I think at this point the only other upgrade I could do to improve my performance would be a cam upgrade. Would this be a good upgrade for a standard CG250? Honestly, I bet it would make a difference. If you plan on porting your head, definitely upgrade to a 30mm smooth bore.

That's great news Dan, and you're definitely paving the way for others to follow, I hope you post up links, part numbers etc. Thank goodness for the tinkerers and performance enthusiasts lol.
I still like the plug and play of the Mikuni though, simple and straightforward. Did you run the Mikuni with your modded head? Great video too, and you definitely look younger and nicer than your angry profile pic. |

About the only part I used that isn't easy to find is the CQR250 intake. https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=581545449897 Taobao is the only place I have found to purchase it. It's about 6 bucks, plus another $6-8 to ship it. The issue is, I know many people aren't comfortable with buying via Taobao. If there is enough interest in them I would be glad to order a few of them.

I couldn't agree with you more. Makes all the difference in the world. When I was looking at the PE30 the price was right at $100. A little more than I wanted to spend at the time. The PWK30 works great too but if I had to do it all over again I would go with the PE30 because of the easier access to the idle speed and mixture screw. On mine with the shorter intake tube I can access them pretty easy but the PE30 is a way better option.

With the carb setting further back and out did that pose any problems with the throttle cable and tank clearance?
Also with port matching wouldn't it be a good idea to have the CQR intake first? |

I saw the side cover was on lol! Glad you are happy with that carb and love the power you have. I'm more familiar with air mixture, and once I have exhausted the novelty of the original fuel soaker pilot scheme this may be what I want.

Just purchased the nibbi and a new head to port and polish. Cant wait to break out the porting kit and make this thing happen. Just hoping the head Jerryhawk250 got is the right one.

So I cant seem to find a way to get the CQR intake on the English taobao site. I've narrowed down these two going to buy both and even if I half to customize it as Long as it bolts to the head I'll find a way!

I have noticed a strange behavior with the slide. The spring for it is much lighter than the pz30 unit, so it doesn't like to fully close at random when under high vacuum. I am going to look into using the pz30 or pwk springs, or finding another option. This was causing me to think my bike was lean because the revs would stay at 2krpm for a bit. Blip the throttle and it would settle back down, which helped me figure that out. I could feel it even while coasting in gear, which the throttle blip also solved. I love quirky issues like this...

That's where I'm at right now too. I need a 122 main. 125 too rich and 120 is lean. Temps were in the mid 90's over the weekend with a heat index of around 105. The 125 was a little too much. Surprised my oil temps never got over 200 but head temps got up to 310 at one point where I had to maintain 70mph for a few miles on the interstate. Had a goodstrong tail wind going to a local one of the festival. Got her up to 75 with some throttle left but on the way back bucking the same wind 75 mph was about all she had. The wind really effects the speed with the taller gears.
