munich motor museum

a few pictures tell the story better than i could
enjoy! i went there last year with my lovely girlfriend on our tour of western europe. the bikes from kuwait on the main square were odd. i guess they flew them over. lots of fairly wealthy arabs on the streets in munich.

Wow! Thanks for sharing the great photos, Zingshoen! The Meserschmitt 200 looks like it belongs on the Bonneville Salt Flats, not far from me.

SpudRider, how far are you from Bonneville Salt Flats? that s a place ordinary earthlings only read about! one day i ll have to go to utah, and see those mythological places! the messerschmitt was used on the speed track, the 200cc remind one of a well tuned zong :-)

Krasi_BG, that s a 300cc rotary engine serial production bike. more info here, but it s in germerman:

The Bonneville Speedway is only a 4-hour drive by automobile from my home. That's considered a short trip around here. I'd love to convince Weldangrind to come down here and accompany me on his TW200 for a trip to the Bonneville Speedway for Speed Week, or the World of Speed, this autumn.

Have you seen the movie, "The World's Fastest Indian," starring Anthony Hopkins?

Here's a link to the trailer for the movie.

sure have, an enjoyable film! the guy cast his pistons, cooled them and then made his tea with the same water

tnx for the page with the dates of events! wide open spaces are my kind of scene, but a bit of excitement is okay, too :-)

It's still on my bucket list, Spud.

you guys gonna speed test the TW200 and the Zong?

Quote:
In 1955, in order to prove the KR200's durability, Messerschmitt prepared a KR200 to break the 24-hour speed record for three-wheeled vehicles under 250 cc (15.3 cu in). The record car had a special single-seat low-drag body and a highly modified engine, but the suspension, steering, and braking components were stock. Throttle, brake, and clutch cables were duplicated. The record car was run at the Hockenheimring for 24 hours and broke 22 international speed records in its class, including the 24-hour speed record, which it set at 103 km/h (64 mph) [...]

The narrow body, and corresponding low frontal area, was achieved with tandem seating, which also allowed the body to taper like an aircraft fuselage, within a practical length. 10 PS (7.4 kW; 9.9 hp) propelled the KR200 to around 105 km/h (65 mph). The consumption of the car was 87 mpg-imp (3.2 L/100 km).
from wikipedia, the first part is about the record car in the picture above, the second part is about the production car.

that would meet most commuters' needs in big cities!

I don't need the salt flats to speed test the Zong; it reaches it's top speed in a fairly short distance.

I'll consider setting a low speed record for the TW. That's easy. Those wide tires prevent it from falling over.
