you guys might try that dupont chain lube spray at walmart. don't have to remove anything. just use the plastic tube to spray some in to the top of the cable until it runs out the bottom like wd 40. go eat a sandwich and it will change inside the cable to a dry waxy/ pfe like anti friction coating on the cable. slicker than u know what! if you spray it on the concrete and let it do its thing, you can't hardly stand on it

on a good std mcycle chain, you can approach the life of an O ring one

I routed it like that....and pulled, cleaned and lubed the speedo cable before it even hit the road and it appears that the TT250 made a liar out of me! It let go on this mornings ride with about 90 kliks on it. :-( This is the first CB speedo cable I've had snap.

Time to contact Ryan!
Sorry to hear it broke, but it makes me feel better about mine and my lubing and routing job. If it happened to you too then there must be an issue with it.

I switched from petroleum lube on my chain to this dupont, it seems pretty good. I also hot dipped my new chain in Gulf wax but plan on being generous with the dupont lube. Hope the dupont is much cleaner than the petroleum mess I delt with.

They changed the composition formula

You are correct. It was awesome, now just good. DuPont changed the original formula a few years ago. There was a large write up in Motorcycle Consumer News regarding this. I was an early user, 2003, and really liked the ease of applying, lack of mess, and lubricating properties.
The new formula doesn't seem to last as long between applications. I was lucky to find several containers of the "old formula" online and stocked up.
I wish DuPont would return to the old formula!

I always have the Garmin mounted so it's acting as the replacement.

I may give the lube thing another try too.

Just FYI, Should know within a few days if the speed sensor i'm having built will work properly on the TT. Then the clusters i have will bult up and go!

With all the electronic stuff we have nowadays, why are we using a spinning cable in a sheath? That seems like late nineteenth/early twentieth century technology for god's sake. I'm guessing the German, Japanese and American bikes built now use a better technology?

I understand we're living in CB World here, but how do they do speedometer sensors and cables in that far off 21st century? This is my first motorcycle in 21 years, so I'm not familiar with today's motorcycle tech. Please tell me there's a better way than a spinning cable in a sheath that breaks if it's bent too much.

Not sure why these are crapping out like they are but I have many old style spinning cables and they all last a very long time (normally) and are accurate enough if lubed.

That said, this could be the motivation I need to jump to mjstef's setup once it's done. Mrs. 2LZ really like the sweeping tach and digital speedo on the RX3 and this would cure that problem.

Yep, emailed him yesterday, cable shipped out already. Great service as always. We'll see if this one lasts.
