High or Low Exhaust

Well, it’s time to buy an exhaust for my Hellcat!

Which do you prefer, a high exhaust system or a low exhaust system? Why?

Thanks for your input!

I run a "low mount" although to be honest it's high enough that maybe it should be called a "mid mount" exhaust , but it does route from under the bike like a "low mount", rather than "through" it ,like the standard "high mount" does.

It basically comes down to what you like the look of, most people who run the low mount do so because they are A: Lighter weight being shorter than a high mount ( some are really short ) meaning a weight savings as well as "some" power gain ,and if you stunt ,the low mount does not interfere with the peg drop downs on a 12 O'clock bar like certain hi mounts do. Those who prefer high mounts generally run them because they tend to trail ride a good bit, and the high mount keeps the exhaust from being submerged in the old creek, or deep water hole which can be problematic .

Link to Exhaust wlfpck and myself are running : https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stainless-S...75.c100623.m-1

You can see what it looks like installed here : http://chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=20864
(scroll down, it's near'ish the bottom )

So, to a degree it's what kind of riding you plan to do ,and how hardcore you plan to be about it. Be careful when buying as many Grom exhausts really will NOT fit the Clones well and take heating and bending or other nonsense, while others will go right on,so do your homework on that front. I personally prefer low mounts , but i really got mine because i knew it was LOUD ,I guess that is the HD rider in me coming out lol !

Good luck choosing and let us know what you choose to go with !

I made my decision...

Here’s what I decided to go with...

It’s listed on eBay for $79.00 Plus $29.19. I know I can get a no-name brand for $20 less, but there’s something about getting a name attached to it.

Exhaust system - check!

That's the one I would go with.

I was originally going to go with that one. I like how short and low it sits. Looks really clean. The only thing I was concerned with was clearance of the electric starter when I eventually swap the ZS190 in.

I was WRONG!

I will admit it, “I was wrong”! I paid an extra $20-30 for the Piranha name. It wasn’t worth it! The welds are not pretty. The baffling is held on with 3 spot welds. Which could be good if you want to make it a little louder. The mounting flange has two sets of holes. Like they drilled the first set, it didn’t fit, so the drilled another set. On the inlet side, when you look down the pipe, you can see a pipe blocking the exhaust flow.

Now for $110, I don’t expect a Yoshi or a V&H, but a little quality control would be nice!

The cheesy internal welds are unfortunately pretty common on the budget exhausts, but that said I can't tell if thats your exhaust flange or a mounting bracket but those double holes is plain BS, no way they didnt see that .You can likely still make it work but that's just inexcusable even for a budget exhaust .

You would have to mod/cut/weld but you could get it to work.
Just not direct bolt on.

Where’s your bike?

I wanna see the pic I just saw somewhere but I lost the post, can you post a pic or a link to the post with it????

Nice looking bike bro, I just got a black one and have a few things in the mail (fender delete, 17t, mukuni carb) and I wanna see if I can’t use up stock cargo bars with the fender delete kit ??????

my stock exhaust burned off my read blinker, by design. It’s all stock, all I’ve done is drill a small hole in the gas top cuz it kept shutting off from all those California legal stuff it has. Hit 72 on the freeway and a few people don’t believe me . Use it for food deliveries so attach a basket to the back for work.

on a bike that is for road use...
it makes no sense in carrying the exhaust weight high
unless cornering clearance is a issue...
