Taiwanese SMAX

They are calling the Kymco the Taiwanese SMax.
175cc and 70mph.
Looks like the Philippines will get it first.

Thumbs Up

For about 7 months when I (attempted to) move to L.A., I worked for a restaurant that had two scooters, delivering food on the weekends. I was scared at first, so stuck to the Honda Metropolitan 50 until I got used to the conditions. Then, I upgraded to their SMax. Wow! That thing had waaaay more power than a 155cc should have. I even got to ride it on the freeway a few times. It got up to an indicated 80 mph. I was impressed with its power.

The Yamaha SMax is a great scoot for the money, so the Kymco will need to be priced considerably less to be competitive in the States.
Some guys conjecture that the KRV is a repackaged Yager 200. That wouldn't bother me. The Yager was a good bit faster than the current HD200.

I have noticed that the high quality 'off' brands like SYM, etc. will have much larger engines to justify their prices. To me, the SMax is a bargain even with 'only' 155cc's. I got the restaurant's bike up to an indicated 80 mph (not sure how accurate) on a few mile stretch of L.A. freeway, so I know if one wanted a reasonable priced scooter with an actual brand name (big 4) as one's only vehicle in the L.A. area (there is a growing 'urban' crowd who pay big rent to live in downtown L.A. and get around on scooters and whatnot as their only vehicle), a SMax would fit the bill.

I rode the scooter on the weekend days, but there was a delivery guy who lived near the restaurant and worked pretty much 6 or 7 nights a week (the place was open until 2 AM and did deliveries), so I know the bike was getting beat up. At one time, it developed a coolant leak and was indicating that it was running hot, but that was literally a few weeks before the restaurant's partners up and closed the restaurant to change the concept to a Tennessee chicken fast-food/fast-casual concept and they were not going to deliver anymore. One of the cooks ended up with the Metro 50, and the delivery guy ended up buying the SMax. I considered buying it myself, but I knew how beat up it was and they wouldn't budge on $1500...

I know this is an older thread, but if it's a Kymco you can't go wrong!

Just my 2 cents...
