Hyosung Motorcycle

Hey guys, I saw this 2300 hyosung bike from Korea that looks really good. It claims like 28 hp max output. It looks like an interesting find. Anyone know more about these motorcycles?

Hyosung is Korean. They have a cult following in the US, although I think the GD is the most recent bike they had here. From what I understand, they had or have a relationship with Suzuki. I have read mixed reviews on their quality, and my guess is they would be more difficult to repair vs. a Chinabike.

I dont know beans about it, but i have to admit it is pretty snazzy looking , i can see why it has a following. ,but $2300 is well into good used Jap bike price range and those are a known commodity .

usually when you see these hovering around $2400 they are the ones left at the bottom of the barrel of supply. the good ones have been picked through and most likely this is a blem unit, or even worse, a mechanical issue or two....

They used to make a naked 250 v-twin bike that I lusted for. I don't think they import them to the states any more.

That is the bike that made me start following them in the early 2000s. When I moved to Yuma in 2004, a shop carried the United Motors street bikes. United Motors rebadged different brands' bikes, including a sweet dual sport made by Skyteam, and they rebadged Hyosung's 650 naked and fairing bikes. I really lusted after the 650 naked bike, as well as the Skyteam dual sport, but I ended up with a $1000 Jetmoto dual sport which was my first foray into Chinese bikes.

This is Hyosung's site and it appears that the last bikes imported were from 2017.

They are selling new 2016 250cc models for 1500 bucks here.
Looks like the sport bike rather than the naked.
I guess a sport bike is just one minor crash away from being a naked bike.

For $1500 I would grab one. But I think the $1500 advertisement is just to get you over there. It's probably $1500 down and they will finance the rest. If you check there website the have them on sale for $2495. If you live close by go take a test drive. Remove fairing and headlight mod and you got a naked.

An honest outfit to contact regarding Hyosung would be J and P Motorsports in San Diego. I do recall seeing an ad from somewhere where there were bikes offered on the site, but at the bottom of the ad was a disclaimer ripping into Hyosung and their quality and how they weren't backing the bikes, etc. I am guessing this might have been around 2016 or '17, which would coincide with the model year of the last of their year of imported bikes here. My theory is since the bikes didn't sell in huge quantities, there was never a real centralized discussion on their defects. They sold sporadically here and there, and in fact were sold under different brands. United Motors had them as I mentioned, and even ATK came back into the market rebadging them. They might have even been assembled here, or so the press releases stated, to give some impression of 'made in 'Murica' to give ATK some credibility since their high-end dirtbikes used to be made here a few years prior.

Edit: JP have a bunch of bikes, including some NOS ones from several years back. Some are actually listed as 'sold' so there is apparently a market for them. I wouldn't mind a naked 650 model... https://jpmotorsports.com/Vehicles/Motorcycles/Hyosung

So just out of curiosity I emailed them about the $1500 price. I was right. This was there reply.
"Hi Jerry
$1500 is for in house down payment. If we are not able to get you regular finance we have the in house finance option with $1500 down for $2495 price Hyosung."

I also emailed them about the Free nationwide Shipping on there website. Waiting on reply.

Those guys can't fool JerryHawk.
-$2495 is still a decent price. About the only other comparable bike you can get new for that kind of money is the new KP200 from Lifan. Hmmm...V twin Huosung vs 6 speed KP 200.

Not hard too to decide. 27hp Huosung vs 17hp KP 200.

The DG250R is a single cylinder water cooled engine. Only makes about 1hp more. Final gear ratio is probably about the same. They have both the GT250R (V-twin air cooled) and GD250R (Single watercooled) for 2017.

But, In the real world testing the new Single is oversquare and revvable to 10,700 rpm, with a 12:1 compression ratio. The new thumper made 23.44 hp at 8900 rpm on the dyno, to the old Twin’s 25.2 at 9700 The Single produces 15.6 lb-ft of torque at 7100 to the old Twin’s 15.4 at 6500. Copy and paste from this article.
