Hawk 250

hello i just joined the forum after doing alot of research on the hawk 250,watching many videos of alot of guys who love the bike,not new to bike but new hear,used to own a vstrom Dl 1000 2009 an 650 was more nimble ,seems this one should be fun i have had few bikes atvs snowmobiles,but will only have a hawk now,

plan are the upgrades are sprokets ,possibley the carb i live at 1000 feet so will see how the carb runs hear i have watched like 40 videos on the bike mostly motocheese an others ,an found for 1474,00 fully assembled ,will stil do the pdi an change the oil ,i also plan to do 60/40 tire for more on road rideing,will see how the stock wheels feel ,then there is the off road will do a little bit of too,how do you all like the feel of the 90/10 on the road ,seems about $300.00 puts the bike as close to crf 250 as one can get, TXmotorsports i bought mine from will be hear in about 2 week stock picture red i like ,one more thing ? does anyone know much about he new DXL hawk with EFI seems they will be around $2500.00 ,oh an thanks in advance, i got alot of info from this forum before i joined nice looking bike

I live at the same altitude as you do, so I can definitely get you close on the carb tune.

As far as the tires. I never had a 90/10 tire, but the Shinko 705 is an 80/20, and it makes the hawk a completely different bike on the road. It's decently capable off road as long as you don't try to go through mud or wet sand. They will also last a REALLY long time. I had over 1500 miles on mine and they were barely starting to wear.

Hey i am trying to find a clutch replacement for my hawk 250. Something i can buy in a local bike store other then ordering the stock chinese one from tx motor sports. Any idea of wish clutch plates from another bike fits the hawk 250?

thank you megadan an slowroller ,looking forward to knowing more about the bike ,oh my first mods will be the air box mod an possibley the the baffel for breathing better ,but i got like all i need to upgrade the bike saved to amazon an ebay the carb if needed $36.00 sprokets like 15,00 each jets like $10.00 tires $90.00 for both ,i found a full aftermarket exhaust for like 99.00 free shipping tire an tube kit like 30.00,its like less then $300.00 it seems to upgrade on of these ,but i could see some getting up to $500.00

i would think most guys do one or two mods at a time ,first 2 on mine are free,as long as i dont need to jet up ,my buddie it better with the carb then me ,but that is the best thing i think i will learn hear is more about carbs,small parts an big fingers ehhehe thank you

i would just get the ones tx has. i know this the 1975 tt 125cc honda is supoposed to be the engine clone for the hawk 229cc yes an there like $100.00 for the plates $44.00 for the hawk version ebay or try bike bandit may be cheaper ,are you power shifting ???

Oh trust me, you can go well beyond spending $500 upgrading one of these bikes. My 2017 was close to $800 thanks to my constant need to tinker and upgrade things. But yes, you can sensibly go all out and keep it well within $500 to make it into whatever kind of bike you want it to be.

Welcome to the Forum. It seems like you've done a fair bit of homework on the bike. There's several lifetimes of reading here, but the guys (and gals) are all super helpful for whatever ails your Hawk. Happy riding!

thank you guys ,i know what you meen about upgrades ,i was lucky to have those other nice bikes that cost so much ,an had like 4k in my vstrom in extras alone,i found when you sell your bike no matter how low the miles ,you dont get back any upgrades ,so on these i guess i wont feel to bad ,if a year from now i sell it to a kid for $800.00 then go get the zodiac,i got a feeing i may end up on a trike,

But will see ,i had accident in 2008 that was a bit rough on the 1000 was an old lady not looking so went out an bought a camaro then a chinese scooter ,but confident i am going to ride an be more careful then ever Defencive driveing is not allways enough ,an just remember its an every day thing to avoid people in cars ,back roads around hear are fun the less traveled ones, slow is good i been on the 150mph trip ,as i get older my need for speed is not as intence ,an this bike seems to fit the bill

why thank you i notice your from florida ,i lived there for 15 years ,my first bike was gs 850 shaft drive in 1987 1988 i think it was 1984 fast bike it was ,an wow those shafts dont give at all when you down shift ,something you never forget like comeing to sliding stop in gear 2 ,after going a bit to fast in the hood ,i lived around orlando area sanford Daytona ,was nice down there ,bit hot in summer like right now

The Hawk, and those like it, are what I consider "just enough" in terms of a motorcycle to get out and enjoy riding. Especially true if you don't have a need for soeed lol. Once you get the engine past the break in period and breathing better with an intake and exhaust upgrade, and dial in the carb jetting, they are much better bikes. I am sure you will end up with a smile on your face riding it, just like the rest of us.
