What spoke material is best?

I'm about to buy spokes. The 2 types offered are, chrome plated, and cabnium(sp) plated. The chrome plated ones are cheaper. Which do you think are better and why? Thanks for replies, IronFist.

The originals were probably chrome plated. Not sure what cabnium is. It might have more corrosion resistance.

Probably cadmium. Has a slight yellowish color. Prevents rust.

What kind of deal did you find on spokes? I'd like to build a new wheel for one of my bikes.

I have cadium chains for the semi, and they seem to hold up very well to the road salt. We also use the same chains for dragging logs, so they get abused but the finish has held up pretty good. Like the other fellow said, it's not real shiney like chrome, more of a yellowish hue. That's my only experience with cadium.

I think you should go with chrome on your bike, I don't think yellowish spokes would suit it too well.

Ack! I didn't go for chrome. I went more expensive. I like chrome as you know Kato, but I like the rust protection too. I'll be happy as long as they're shiny. They are about the only things that really look 36 years old on my bike.

Before the build, I'll snap a pic of my cashe of upgrades. The pile of stuff is really growing.

Q, I had to get my spokes from bankok. You can do better closer to home I think.
