Hi Guys! I am new to this forum, and this is actually my first post. Sorry if I am breaking protocol with this message as I still have a lot to learn about forum rules.

The issue I found with the installation of the Gen 2 center stand is that the mounting points under the frame of my RX3 are wider than the distance between the two grooves on the pivot shaft. I can install one circlip at one end of the shaft but the second groove on the opposite end is not even visible when the shaft is fully inserted.

Is it ok/recommended to grind the mounting points?

Thanks!

Chucho

That would be a lot of grinding, Chucho. I am wondering if your shaft was machined incorrectly. What is the distance between the two grooves?

Jay, thanks for your response.

Based on the pictures below, it will be about 1.5mm of grinding per side (sorry, last picture is upside down).

Once ground, is it needed to paint the bare metal to prevent rusting?

I sent an email to CSC two days ago, and their recommendation is to grind the mounting points too. So I 'll just go ahead and do it - using my Dremel tool and a grinding stone.

They proposed three other solutions: cut a new groove on the shaft, drill the shaft so that a cotter/split pin can be used with a washer, or have them send me a new shaft with mods already done.

CSC mentioned they have found the same problem on a few stands so this seems to be a QC issue.

I just need to make a trip to Home Depot to get me a new c-clip as I busted one when trying to install it.

Chucho, wish we were near each other. Being a machinist, I'd throw the shaft in the lathe and widen the groove for you in 15 sec. Or drill and tap the end of the shaft for a bolt, then use a fender washer that is bigger OD then the shaft and hold it on the end of shaft with the bolt. Another 45 seconds, not even up to a coffee and donut price yet
I hate grinding things, makes my nose run and my eyes all twittery. rj

RJ, too late: grinding is done and stand is installed...you are right as we seem to be on opposite ends of the west coast - I live less than ten miles from the USA-Mexico border.

I would have easily traded some coffee and half a dozen donuts for your expert machine work!

I ran into the same problem as Chucho. I barely had the bike for 1 hr and I was already finding problems in the Chinese craftsmanship! Going through the thread I learned why tolerances aren't as closely observed on this part of the bike. I'm hoping this is the only place. Anyways I ended up mushrooming one end of the pin with the C clip still on. Once it was mushroomed enough I removed the C-clip and bashed the pin further till I was able to get a C-clip onto the other side. That sucker ain't going nowhere.

the sad part about all this is the center stand and pin are the only American made parts on the bike I think, Who ever makes the pins should just move the grooves 1/8" father apart and bob's your uncle, rj

Hope I'm not hijacking the thread, but I ordered a center stand along with my bike. I tried to put it on the other day and had the same problem that other's have had. The groves in the shaft are not spaced out properly. I was following the instructions on the CSC site.

Then it struck me as to why it had been drilled and tapped and they included a washer and bolt on one end.

I'm guessing this is their fix. So you only use a clip on one side???

I'll try to put this back on after work today and see what happens.

I whole-heartedly recommend that you Loc-tite the *shirt* out of that bolt.
