still figuring out how to mount it, but I did make some progress yesterday and have most of the stuff figured out now... need to get a set of mounting pucks similar to the honda method, and a few rubber grommets fkr the back half ot the tank for vibe isolation, but I think I am real close to making this work!

I have the stock DR650 tank from my mule. It's a 2015 tank, in perfect shape. The bike only had about 300 miles on it when I swapped it out for a 6.6 gallon acerbis tank. PM me if anybody is interested in picking it up.

Bogie...so you think this dr650 is the closest match for this frame?

I took my bike out this afternoon for a quickie..where else, the shell station

i think the older pre 96 tanks may be better, i just happened upon a great deal on this one and am bound and determined to make it fit.... the BEST fit is probably more along the lines of an xr250 from the 80s/early 90s...

picture time.... the flange on the back of the tank was interfering with getting enough clearance for the forks to turn full lock, as the flanfe was hitting the tang on the front of the seat which locks into the frame. got out my brand new Christmas present of a rockwell 3.5a oscillating tool, and went to town with the metal cutting blade... sucker works great!!!!

clearanced the flange to allow the tank to sit slightly further back...

How bout the front tabs that connect to the neck area. Will those intersect with the existing weld nuts? Mind a gap on the dorsal frame member and the tank. , I remember orange County chopper boys using cardboard or anything as a spacer for the clearance Clarence

I miss that show.

no, there's nothing up front that lines up...yet...LOL I am probably going to grab a set of the pucks and weld in new mounts for the front half of the tank. the front nuts are forward of the entire tank...

i will say, just like the DR tank, if i recall correctly, you will need to make a front mount for the tank, as i have not seen any tanks (off the top of my head) that use the front bolts as a mounting system. i think the xr tanks will better allign with the seat nose... however i am very curious about swapping in a dr650 seat, as they use the same bolt down style as the roketas... curious how close it may end up being...

not really.... been stalled by projects that Mrs Bogieboy deem "more important than a motorcycle in the dead of winter" LOL made a bit of progress the other day figuring out how the tank is going to get mounted but have no pics yet... it involves drilling the frame and a bit of threaded rod... haven't done it yet though. .. basically the tank tunnel is an inch or two wider than the tank... the threaded rod goes thru the frame, which the rubber pucks go on the end of the rod, and secure the front of the tank.

here's my update for the week....its done...... aside from putting the petcock in and hooking the fuel line up....

so... drilled a hole in the center web of the tank, puut threaded rod thru hole and nutted it down. two more nuts to beef up where the rubber tank pucks go, a few self tappers with hose rubber under the tank flange for the rear mount, and viola!!!! the seat doesn't line up as well as I had hoped but I really don't care at this point... I may fart around with it at a later date and see about trying a dr or drz seat pan, but for now its fully functional...
