'54 Chevy Pickup Truck

I spotted this 1954 Chevy pickup while fueling my bike this August. The owner is visible in the first photograph.

The owner graciously offered to open the hood, and show me the engine.

That lady owns a nice pickup truck.

Nice. I had a 52 with 55 235 six and a 57 3.90:1 rear axle. The curved windshield and grill was the give away of it being a 54.

I see it has a small block conversion with an automatic. And a conversion done right, too. Usually, the dash would get butchered by moving the steering column to the left to compensate for the relocated steering box. The adaptation of u-joints in the steering column took care of that.

These trucks rode halfway decent, had a pretty tight turning radius, and a wide cab. I could aim for parking spots that would be tough to hit with Mrs. Cs' Audi and, when my girls were younger, fit four butts in the seat.

Awesome truck, and I especially like the color. It's also cool it belongs to a chick :-)

She desperately needs an original looking steering wheel though. Same for the seats, although they are less glaring. I'm sure they are comfortable but IMHO they really let the truck down.

My guess is that it is a van column, which provides the shift indicator and key ignition. That's an easy way to perform the swap, vs. trying to make a dash-mounted indicator work. The wheel is probably from the donor van. Since it is pre-airbag, it would be easy to swap. My vote would be a banjo wheel.

I love the quarter windows.

Thanks for the pics, Spud.

The steering wheel and the seats gave away what was going to be under the hood. That wheels looks like the one in the 88 Chevy.

Still a nice truck that looks original from the outside.

I love the color, and the wide, white sidewall tires. The chrome looks great. She is not a purist, but she had a good job done.
