1974 XL 125 resto/custom

I thought I would share another project I've been working on. This is a 1974 Honda XL 125 frame. I got it from a pick-up load of scrap at the steel mill for $25. The engine was shot (ran hot with no oil) so I got an engine off a '72 SL 125, totally rebuilt it, and used the flywheel, stator, and head from the XL. I sand blasted the frame, wheels, steering, brake components, tank, etc and repainted everything with automotive base/clear. The plastics are UFO universal fenders, the rear shocks are nitrogen filled aftermarkets, rebuilt the front shocks and installed a spacer for some preload, the carb is off an early '80s XR. I put a massive rear tire on, I still need to shave the side lugs for clearance. Just finished building a wiring harness; I plan to install some sort of head light and tail/brake light. All that is left now is to fab a header, find a muffler, fab a seat pan- cusion and cover that, and see if she'll crank. I was thinking of finding a header from a chinese bike, exhaust port is the same as a Lifan 200, any tips?

Nice work on the paint; excellent colour choice. If that carb is an early eighties XR unit, it is most likely a Keihin. Jets are easily found when the time comes.

If you can find a header from a 250cc Gio / X-Moto, check it with a magnet, since some of them were stainless. As well, they have quite a large ID, so they won't create a restriction.

Thanks for the lead on those models, but I still can't find a header. Pretty much any displacement under 500 should work as long as it's for a vertical engine. Maybe some links to chinese motor parts that carry exhaust. Thanks

This is kind of pricey, but it looks like it will fit. No way to tell if it's stainless or not.
