I see it a lot also, I just roll my eyes and sigh. But I also wish people knew more about these bikes so they don't get ripped off...Some poor chump will pay that amount for it sooner or later.

China Bikes hold their value...

It is encouraging in a way though.

These bikes don't seem to depreciate as much as the Japanese ones for some odd reason.

one possible reason for high prices on craigs list is people like me who want instant gratification and seen the bike but didnt have the cash and the dealer says well we offer financing and then your stuck with a 4 year loan and payments of $128 a month then you realise damn im stuck with this underpowered crapocycle for the next 4 years and the only way out is to pawn it off on some other sucker so i can pay it off and get me a bigger nicer bike.. just my .02 cents

lf250B for sale $3200 (and yes thats my payoff)

A rare jewel see's the light of day after 13 years in storage. This bike is a very rare model that was only made for two years in the mid eighties but has a following to this day that cannot be denied. The harley inspired design and the low seat height has made this bike very attractive to women riders and with its 450cc bulletproof engine cruising on major highways is a piece of cake. This particular machine has been stored inside a garage since 1995 and has only 17000 kms on the clock. Bringing it back to life has been a labor of love and this bike has to be seen to be believed. As of this moment it has new tires, new brake pads, new battery, full service done to engine, carbs have beeen disassembled and cleaned, air filter, plugs, fresh oil and filter. The tank had to be removed and rebuilt as it had rusted through. So the tank has been sealed inside and has new paint. Unfortunately the Honda emblem that is on the tank had to go away so the tank will be just black. Seats are mint, has the rare spoked tubeless tire rims, is super clean and runs like a Swiss watch. The bike needs nothing but a rider. Any questions call 604-323-0293. 604-940-9219 after 6.00pm. Thanks.

This guy looks to have stirred up the guys on there pretty good... I'd get hardly anything over that for my 05 Vulcan...

I think you nailed a big part of it right there, and it's not limited to China bikes. In fact, it's probably less common since a lot of people can afford the relatively low cost of a brand new Chinese bike, as compared to the Japanese counterparts.

Ninja 250's, for example. The newly styled 08's MSRP was $3500, but it was common to see them listed at $5k last summer. Partially due to a lack of supply for this particular example, but not so for a 650R I found last week. An 07 listed for $6200 when the 09's are on the showroom floor at $6700 MSRP.

I exchanged a few emails with that owner and was never once given a reason as to why it was listed for more than $2k over it's book value. It has since been dropped to an asking price of $5k, but that's still high. :?

I finally sent details of several equally nice bikes at much lower prices and told the owner to look at something other than what they had invested because depreciation is a fact, and I am not responsible for their interest payments. If I'm not getting the luxury of the loan, why should I pay the interest?

Now, if these owners were willing to finance that high price (as it was done for them), I think they'd have a chance of getting most of their money back (eventually).

My peeve w/ CL is the ads w/o pictures or much needed information...like Manufacturer, model, year, mileage and price. They think "nice motorcycle, looks great!" is somehow enough information. And then get lippy when everyone asks them the same questions...what year? what size? how many miles? got any pics?

And then there's the "pictures available on request". I request and get "give me a number to send the pics". Psst...hey, buddy....try sending them to the email address I just used to request said pictures. Even if I could get pictures on my phone (the phone is capable, but my plan is not...I'd have to pay extra) I wouldn't want them on the phone because it would be too small to see any detail. Is email the outdated technology already? 8O

Sorry for the short rant.
I spend too much time window shopping on CL.
