50cc bad vibration

I HAVE A 50cc gio atv and it vibrates a lot at higher rpm, so much that it really bothers your feet on the footrests. Where do I start looking for problems.

Check the motor mounts first.

Listen to more Beach Boys next if that does not help.

Good Vibrations counter Bad Vibrations.

Indeed, the motor mount bolts are frequently loose on some of the Chinese bikes.

I will check that, but was thinking more along the line of the flywheel, being out of balance, do they have little weigts welded on them for balancing, could one have broken off? Someone told me that as the transmission/clutch wears the dust collects and migt even cause vibration.

I don't think that you'll find weight added to the flywheel, only material removed. These are relatively smooth little motors, but they buzz at higher rpm. X2 on the motor mounts, along with every fastener on the quad. Blue Loctite is your friend.

I wonder if the 'weights' you are referring to aren't magnets? If that is the case and one was missing I don't think the motor would run.

I've never heard of a flywheel coming apart. Similarly, normal wear of the drive chain and clutch will not cause vibration. As Weldangrind suggested, you should check the motor mounts along with every other fastener on the quad.

I check all mounts and they are tight, no welds broken etc.. any other ideas, the faster it goes the worse it gets, the vibration through your feet gets to the point that you have to slow down because it gets start to hurt.

I strongly suggest you don't ride that bike again until you discover the problem; it's dangerous. One member of these forums has the frame crack on him. If the vibrations are coming from the engine, it could fail you at the worst possible moment.
