Zongshen 200GY-2: 100,000 Kilometers Milestone

The high temperature on Thursday exceeded 70 degrees Fahrenheit, so I decided to take a 140-mile ride on my Zong to the Blackfoot Reservoir, and back. About 36 miles into the ride, my Zong reached 62,137.1 miles, or 100,000 kilometers on the odometer.

Here is the location where my Zong reached this epic milestone. Yes, I know I need to replace my Kenda, K760 rear tire.

After stopping to record the historic moment, I continued riding to the Blackfoot River.

Traveling a little farther, I reached the Blackfoot Reservoir.

Last fall, I replaced the outer clutch basket in my Zong. Today, after 100,000 kilometers of riding with only routine maintenance, I'm glad to report my Zong is still running strong. Needless to say, I think I got my $950 worth of value from this excellent little motorcycle. Since the bike is running so well, there's no way to know how long this tough little bike will last.

Thank you. Indeed, I consider myself blessed to live in a location with such beautiful, and plentiful riding opportunities.

I've had some saddle time on that terrific little bike as well. I hope my TW gives me half as many miles.

Indeed, you have ridden over 500 miles in Idaho, Utah, and Nevada on the trusty Zong. Only Brothers Andy, FastDoc, and I have garnered more saddle time on the Zong than you.

Congrats! My bike seems low mileage by comparison at 10k or 11k or ? But I don't think anywhere near 15k.

To celebrate your milestone, and because I got such a heck of a deal on a TMEC (it seemed like 2005 again!) I ordered a brand new one, in black with 17"f/17"r. It will be here next week, and my goal is to achieve at least 50k since you (and your bike) have become such an inspiration (my engine is the Honda-ish pushrod 200cc Zongshen, not the Yamaha-like 200cc Zongshen--but still Zongshen)

100,000k pretty dam good for a 200cc motor..
My XT660 is only good for 100,000 to 120,000k..
If I can get 50/60,000 out of the TTR250 before I
need to lift the head I will count myself lucky...

The XT has 40,000k on it.. TTR has 10,000k so
will be a while yet.. " I hope"

I have installed two oversized pistons. I had a machinist grind the valve seats, and I have replaced the valve stem seals. I also replaced the electric starter motor, and the outer clutch basket. Basically, I have performed the routine maintenance required for an air cooled engine. I haven't touched the bottom end of the engine.

Thank you, Culcune. Congratulations on your new TMEC 200.

Change the engine oil regularly and adjust the valve lash periodically, and I'm sure your Zongshen engine will provide you with many reliable miles of service.

I like Yamahas; I'm sure you will get good service from your bikes. My Zong employs a copy of the bulletproof, Yamaha TW200 engine.

Thank you, 2LZ.

Riding a 200cc motorcycle is fairly safe in rural Idaho. I'm sure I would not be as safe riding in more densely populated states such as California.

The high temperature on Friday reached 77 degrees, so I went for another long ride on the Zong. This time I followed Goodale's Cutoff of the Oregon Trail, riding to Big Southern Butte, and then continuing to Arco, Idaho.

Approaching the butte from the south, I stopped to take the following photographs.

I was stopped just short of the butte's summit by several snow drifts. I should be able to ride to the top in another week or so.

Descending the butte, I headed across the Snake River Plain toward Arco, Idaho, which is at the base of the mountains on the horizon.

Reaching Arco, I stopped to take a photograph of the Zong in front of City Hall. Arco is the first city in the world to be lit by atomic power.

Stopping in town to eat and fuel my bike, I spotted one of the new Indian motorcycles sitting by a fuel pump.

It was a beautiful day, and the ride home was very pleasant. The Zong is a great little motorcycle.
