I know there are tank sealers like por15 that can be used to protect steel tanks from internal oxidation.

When cleaning out my 30 year old XL185 tank I considered it but thankfully the bike was stored in the barn mostly dry with what residual fuel remaining evaporating out into a hard varnish in the bottom seam.

I read somewhere that swishing the tank with a film coat of diesel and letting it cure* might add a layer of protection to bare metal...so I gave it shot.

But I think the take away for me is for long term storage draining equipment is preferred.

Fuel storage on the other hand with modern approved fuel plastic containers seem to hold up to annual gas/petrol storage just fine.

Starting the engine every month to flush through settled fuel especially in the carburetor seems to take care of things also.

Adding a filter and having trust in the fuel supplier is the next issue. We've had the old bad batch scenario knocking out motor vehicles here in Australia before, especially with more high strung EFI systems.

If additives give you peace of mind with fuel, especially with ethanol content then go for it. But from what Ive seen The results do not appear to justify the cost in the everyday use of things.
