Its only a few certain years of the Explorer engine, mine was a 2005 and 2005 was the first year. 2004 and older used a different engine. I believe this is the engine with all the timing chain issues. 4.0L V6 SOHC

Any of the SOHC 4.0 where a problem. Bought an 01 Ranger for $2,500 with a broken tensioner. $600 in parts to rebuild the tensioners and chains. In and out in 2 days. Wish i had a lift!!!
