Does it have a connection behind the headlight? 2017 Hawk 250.
the diode is located in the wire harness under the gas tank near the battery. It's a white rectangular plastic under the tape. You will see the bulge under the tape. Check the green harness connector near the engine just below the battery also .

Good call for most bikes but the Hawk doesn't come with a kick stand switch.

That's what I though. I had to ask. I should have asked,"does the Hawk have a side stand switch?"

I communicated with the helpdesk at Killer and they told me the Hawk will only start in neutral, The referred to the owner's manual and said they talked to the factory. My response is BULL FEATHERS!!! I asked them to explain the switch on the clutch and the wires plugged into it.

I installed my new digital instrument cluster this weekend. Of course you have to remove the headlight and old cluster. Guess what I found? A single barrel connector unplugged. I found the mate and plugged them back together. When I finished the install and had the bike all put back together, I tried to start it in gear with the clutch pulled in. VIOLA!!!! So much for expert support. By the way I love Matt's digital cluster!!!

You can ground the pink and then by pass the system.
Yeah the wiring behind the head light gets messy

For the starter relay energizing circuit to complete it needs to ground through either the gear switch in the neutral position or the clutch switch closed ( lever pulled in).

My simplified wiring diag below , hmm, helpful or confusing, I can't decide

Attachment 8679

if there is a diode where you put it...
the starter button is feed with AC current
from the rectifier.. not DC from the battery as you have it drawn..
unless the start button is very big and can handle the DC amp draw..

Glad you got it figured out. It's a good idea to go through the entire wire harness and check every connector and while your at it put some dielectric grease on those connectors to prevent corrosion in the future.

the start button on these is fed DC, because they actuate the solenoid that does the heavy current Pete, AC power would only be occurring when the bike is running...
