Hawk 250 Air Filter

Planning ahead and don't really see anyone having posted a source for an air filter. Correct me if I'm wrong please...

I pulled mine and took measurements for reference.

It appears that this Briggs and Stratton filter will kind of fit. It isn't a direct replacement, but it'll fill the hole. Does anyone know of any others that would work?

Your picture looks like a Fram air filter.

I used a lawn mower air filter. Bought it at a local automotive store.

Based on your photo and theirs on their site, perhaps an air filter for a TT250 will work and can be obtained from CSC?

You're right. They look remarkably alike. Probably the same thing. CSC claims they don't yet have the filters, but they are on the way.

At $6.85 that's a reasonable price. Assuming they don't charge too much for shipping.

Thanks for the pointer. This helped me narrow things down. It looks like the Hawk uses the same filter as the Honda XR125 / NXR 125 / NXR 150. But I can't find a filter anywhere for them.

We might all be forced to either use the lawnmower air filters, or swap out to one of these things.

Oh, and since I just noticed you can't really read my dimensions well, here is the full size version of my little sketch.

I've installed several of these, and they're quite good quality: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-42mm-B...FUi8Cu&vxp=mtr

How much louder does it generally make the Hawk? And do you need to rejet and/or do anything with the exhaust?

I can't hear it over the Honda CRF250X muffler I welded on. Yes, you need fatter jets any time you increase air flow. You can certainly use a pod filter without changing the exhaust, but you should still expect that jet changes will be needed.

If that B&S filter will fit..
  • Replaces Briggs & Stratton Service Part #491588S
  • For 3.5 through 6.75 Horsepower Quantum Engines and 625 through 1575 Series Engines
According to the K&N cross reference chart here;
http://www.knfilters.com/industrial.htm

This one should fit, and is a lifetime type filter that does not require oiling.
http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?prod=33-2238

Has anyone tried the B&S replacement? can you describe the fitment?

I'd buy one of the K&N and give it a shot if someone can vouch for the fitment.

Last edited by jimwildman; 07-27-2016 at 01:02 PM. Reason: correction. filter does not require oil.

while you're looking at filters, Motocheez did an airbox mod in one of his videos, my bro tried it before this morning's ride. for whatever reason, his immediate reaction after passing me at about 55 true going UPHILL, was "WOW".stock carb, stock exhaust. claimed he got 6 or 7 mph on top end with torque to match. he's running a 16/45 combo. I can tell you I was surprised when he went by (was on my Triumph T-Bird) and he sounded like a 350/400

I took a good quality pleated air filter and cut it to fit my air box. Doubled it up with a little hardware cloth under it for strength. So far so good. Drilled a few good sized holes in top of box. The Briggs n Stratton did look to fit the box but it was $7. The ac air filter was $4 and I have enough material to make several filters.

I ordered the one from CSC, when it arrives I'll let you know if it is the same size as the Hawk filter though I'm pretty sure it is. According to the tracking info, I'll have it this Saturday.
