Zongshen Corporate Update

I was reading the Industry News Forum over at MyChinaMoto, and I saw an interesting thread posted by forum member MJH.

http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...?4003-Zongshen

MJH believes Zongshen has moved its corporate management to Vancouver, British Columbia. Here's a link to the Zongshem PEM website.

http://www.zongshenpem.com/home.html

MJH believes Zongshen has stopped manufacturing my beloved 200GY-2, and the GS250 street bike. Instead, as we might have guessed, Zongshen now seems to be concentrating on bikes with 150cc and smaller engines. This information seems to be corroborated by the motorcycles listed on both the Zongshen International website, and the Zongshen PEM website.

http://www.zongsheninternational.com...t/Default.aspx
http://www.zongshenpem.com/products/motorcycles.html

I'm sad to see Zongshen cease production of my beloved 200GY-2 motorcycle. :( Fortunately, most of the Zongshen 200GY-2 components are either Yamaha parts, or parts common to generic, Chinese motorcycles. Also, I'm confident most 200GY-2 parts will still be stocked by Zongshen America, and will also available via Taobao.

It's interesting, and disappointing, to note the entire list of Zongshen, off road motorcycles is missing from the Zongshen PEM website. :(

http://www.zongshenpem.com/products/motorcycles.html

However, the off road bikes, such as forum member Jeremy2011's ZS150GY-10, are listed on the Zongshen International website.

http://www.zongsheninternational.com...t/Default.aspx

The Zongshen America website has been needing an update for some time now.

http://www.zongshenamerica.com/index.php?valor=0

It appears Zongshen America is downsizing. However, I'm glad to see Zongshen America is still maintaining a stock of parts in its Miami warehouse.

Instead of off road motorcycles, Zongshen PEM is introducing a number of electric scooters, which are not listed on the Zongshen International website.

Nice. Zongshen finally comes to Canada, and all we get are 125 and 150 bikes. Boo. At least they seem to have the standard Honda mounting pattern, so they could conceivably be repowered with a 200 or 230 clone.

This isn't bad. I like the pannier mounts, but I'd be swapping a bigger engine in.

MJH reports in July, 2009, Brazil CR Zongshen Company, Ltd. acquired KASINSKI Motorcycle Manufacturing Company.

http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...Zongshen/page2

Kasinski manufactures electric scooters, so this company might be the source for the electric bikes listed on the Zongshen PEM, North American website.

Interestingly, Kasinski sells some 650cc street bikes, which remind me of the Hyosung motorcycles.

I think the only parts on my Zongshen 200GY-2 which are necessary to acquire from Zongshen are the plastic covers on the sides and rear of the motorcycle.

The ceased production of the 200GY-2 and GS250 motorcycles should cause a moment of reflection for owners of other Chinese motorcycles. Will the Chinese continue parts support for discontinued models of motorcycles as well as the Japanese? Indeed, how long will parts be available for less popular bikes, such as the ill fated, Xingyue (Pitster Pro) LXT 400? :?:

Reading MJH's thread more closely, I discovered Kasinski is indeed, marketing the very nice, Korean, Hyosung street bikes! If Kaskinski begins manufacturing these bikes in Brazil, might we expect to see them added to the Zongshen product line? :?:

Both the Comet GT250R and the GT650R are fuel injected.

Now that Honda is aiming hard for the Third World marketplace with its smaller displacement, CBR250R and CRF250L motorcycles, I don't think it's a coincidence that Zongshen is aiming lower with 150cc, and smaller displacement motorcycles.

Perhaps Zongshen is thinking ahead of the other Chinese manufacturers. The fuel injected, Honda CBR250R has an MSRP of $4,099 in the United States. The fuel injected, Honda CRF250L might have an MSRP as low as $4,599 in the United States. Can the Qingqi, carbureted, 250cc bikes compete with Honda while bearing MSRPs of $2,000, or higher? Perhaps Zongshen is wisely surrendering the 250cc engine class to Honda, and seeking to keep its share of the Third World marketplace with even smaller displacement motorcycles.

I've always like the Hyosung street bikes. Here are the Kasinski, naked street bikes, the Comet GT250 and Comet GT 650. Both bikes have fuel injected engines.

Time to hoard stators and CDI's?

That's a good question, Obso. I don't think things are that bad. Many Zongshen 200GY-2 motorcycles were sold in China, the United States, and throughout the rest of the world. Zongshen 200GY-2 stators and CDI units are easily available for sale on Taobao. I also think Zongshen America is committed to continuing parts support for the 200GY-2, and all the other, discontinued Zongshen motorcycles.

However, I certainly think it's a good idea to keep some spare parts on hand; stators and CDI units are some of those parts.
