Dipped the Fork Guards

I've always had a problem with the stark white fork guards sticking out front and it really stood out in the last pics I just posted. I thought I'd stripe them with some blue or something. Then Mrs 2LZ said "Paint 'em to match the fender. They'll disappear." I wasn't so sure...so I dipped them. I like!

I bled the front and rear brakes, replacing all fluid with DOT 4. Both reservoirs were low so it was time. Plus after the workout they got on the Webster Pass trail, I thought it would be a good idea.

Which after-market seat is that on your RX-3?
Is that a "tall" version?
I like the black-out effect!

Thanks! I'm looking to get rid of all the silver and white on the lower half of the bike....for now.

Yes, that's the "tall" Seat Concepts seat. Vastly superior to the stock torture device. Now that I'm getting more miles on it, its really starting to get nice. It was a bit firm at first but is now breaking-in to me arse and is becoming a vinyl covered massage therapist. Best part is it doesn't lean you so dang forward.

I really like these. They're small, bullet shaped yet bright enough for my needs. I wired them into the "B" circuit. For some reason, sometimes when I get back from a ride I'll find the switch in "A" and I didn't want to accidentally flip them on. This happen to anyone else?

When my brother and I bought the bikes, the owner included the clamps, so I was already ahead of the game there. I think they turned out slick.

I used those same lights, they work really well for how small they are.

Hand Controls

Since these were for a CBR600, I was hoping that the bore size may be larger. Not sure if it is but it works as well as the last brake lever. Maybe better but probably just imagining.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Either way, they went right on. The banjo end on the RX3 is a 10mm, as is the lever. The levers came with its own banjo bolt and crush washers anyway (plus extra wire connectors that weren't needed). The bolts were the same size and length but the threads were different so keep the old bolt with the old levers.

Mirrors were the same size and no problems mounting them.

Even the wire connections for the switches were the same size and both brake light and clutch safety switch work. Since the levers are for a crotch rocket, they're a wee stubby but work just fine and accommodate the fingers.

These come in different colors and they took WEEKS to arrive. Serious "slow boat from China" but if you like bling, worth the wait.

Better function? About the same.
Cool factor? Absolutely.

Thanks detours!
I've discovered a couple things since the post.
1- After a good bleeding once Mrs. 2LZ got home to help, it does seem to brake more firmly.
2- These are not for the "small of mitt". The levers, being more stubby, are also out further from the bars. I have what most would consider large hands...and the closest setting (they're adjustable) on the clutch lever may be a stretch for some.

Accent Blue

Ok...once I got done messing with the levers, I decided to paint the mesh insets of the hand guards blue to match.
Hey....I had the day off, ok? ;-)

Well last Sunday I finally had a day free to break in the new tall seat from Seat Concepts. What a difference it makes. Before I had to get off the bike every hour or my tail bone felt like it was being crushed. I now can ride two hours and not feel anywhere near as fatigued.

One issue I did have was I hit a typical Florida afternoon torrential downpour. At the next light when I pulled in the clutch the bike died. It would restart when I downshifted but when I came to a complete stop the bike died and would not restart. I pulled of to the side of the road and after checking the battery connections I checked the spark plug wire and coil connections and found the plug wire was loose. I must have not fully seated it last time I adjusted the valves.

Yesterday I took the bike out for a spin and every time I came to a stop the bike would stall unless I gave it gas to keep the rpms up. I pulled the plug cable again and noticed that the top of the plug looked rusty. So I stopped and bought an Iridium NGK CR7EIX plug. I replaced the plug last night and went out for a ride this morning. Man what a difference that made. No more stalling and a lot smoother idle. Should have done that first thing when I bought the bike.

Great news, you had us going there for awhile.

I put a little dab of electric grease on my contact.

In another post, the CR8EIX was recommended, instead of the CR7EIX.

I think the difference is that one runs 'hotter' than the other ... But what does that actually mean? And how does it affect our engine? Is one better than the other?
