Finally!! My American Lifan ct70 clone charging with 140cc

I Think All the Old timers know of my back and forths with this little bike.
I Bought it and then had a issue with the title due to the bad MSO the dealer gave me... that left a bad taste in my mouth even after I finally got it sorted out. I shoved it in the shed and it sat for a few years. I Bought a 140cc lifan engine and swapped it in it rode it for a bit but was always Pissed that it would not charge the battery.

I wired it like everyone else was wiring them up but with having a 4 pin cdi system and the 140 having a 5 pin it never charged unless it was idling....Ride to work and the lights would go dim... Even my Local scooter shop that is amazing was scratching their heads.

The 110cc went back in and I cursed it after having that badass 140cc in it. I hardy ever rode it... Well today I got up early and fired up the shop heater.. I picked the Clone up with a strap by my Engine hoist. I yanked the 110cc and threw the 140 back into it and took me quite a while even though it's a little bitty bike...

After getting the 140cc in and looking at the 2 completely different stators and magneto's I had tried to swap the mags and stators a few times but it just wouldnt work. The 110cc had a e start and the 140 was kicker only.
I then had a Revelation!!! Cut the entire backing plate out of the estart plate, cut the mounting plate off the 140cc stator plate. Use it to seal the 140 guts up and then use the 110cc staor and mag without the starter and chain...

Kick ... kick .. kick.. BRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPP And BRIGHT LIGHTS!!!!
I Rode the wheels off of it!! Damn is it ever fast!!! 65mph on 10" wheels

My Poor neighbors. They are going to hate me the next few days..

You bet! I will get a few and post them up. Looks like I put this in the wrong section. I ment for it to go into the Enduro forum.

While riding it earlier My Elderly Nextdoor neighbor got his coat on and watched me zing up and down the street. It was in the 20's here today so was freezing cold..

When I pulled up in his driveway to warm up a little he was laughing and told me I looked like a "Monkey *fornacating* a Football...

It's good to see you again! I am glad to see you got the bike sorted out. I, too, have been interested in how these bikes run with bigger engines since Pitster Pro have carried the Skyteam clones and crate engines. I have lurked on the L.A. area Craiglist and periodically find clones that people have bought with no luck registering them for the street and advertising them for $400 or so. This gives me hope, but now the Skyteam clones come with 125 engines, so I question if the extra few MPH is worth it, especially someone like me who is mechanically awkward and would have to spend about 10 times the time and effort of getting a 140 to work vs. keeping it stock. But, again, glad to see you sorting yours out and it still gives me hope!

If they have 110cc engine a 114cchigh compression kit can be added and supposedly turns them into pretty fast bikes. I would have went that route if I couldn't have gotten the 140 to work out.

Fantastic build!

I think you must have been on the forum before me, nice to hear from you again.

I miss Phil too. Tammy Sinclair responded to an old thread with him in it and it made me a little sad, although he is certainly Home and better off than all of us.

You did a nice job! Congratulations.

As with everyone else, I miss Brother Phil Hall. :( However, I take comfort knowing he has gone home to be with the Lord.

Like everybody else, I miss Phil too. The dual sport forum is dedicated to him.

Thanks for the update! Please be as detailed as you can with pics and descriptions. I have a similar project in mind, but I'm starting with a 90 that I'm poking out to 110. It was a dirt bike engine, so it lacks the proper stator.

I have the right stator on a 50cc atv engine with electric start, but the stator is mounted inside the cover, vs. mounted to the engine. Is the stator you used like that? I found a bolt-in stator on dr.atv, but if I can use the one I have I'll be much happier.

Thanks to Kato, I got my 110 cylinder today. The build will start soon.
